On:

The Lieutenant looked at the chair as he scanned every feature, “This is quite different than my last one,” he commented, “But I do like that it’s sleeker, and form-fitting.” He looked up at the chair’s designer, “My last one was so bulky and...” he stopped looking over at the panel to his left, something had caught his attention.

He hovered a finger over a button, “Does this do what I think it does?”

“Push it and find out,” the human female laughed.

Jarzo lowered his finger as he pressed the button. A belt appeared out of nowhere strapping him into the chair, as it lifted him to a standing position. Within seconds, he was eye to eye with the Engineering Officer. “Well, I’ll be...,” he commented.

“I know you don’t like to use the skeletal support device,” she smiled, “Or whatever you wish to call it. So, I added a feature that allows you to still stand at attention when needed," she mocked. Looking over at his external skeleton, which was lying in a pile on the floor, “All those bulky servomotors and that metal harness, it’s hard to believe after all this time and advancement,” she jerked a finger, “That is still the best method of transportation, for your people.”

“It’s terrible,” Jarzo looked at it, “I keep one just in case, but I hate using it. Sitting in a chair is one thing, but that thing,” he curled his lip, “It gives people something to stare at. Besides, it’s challenging enough just getting into it, let alone walking in it.”

He glanced at the time, “Don’t you have a duty shift, here in a few minutes.”

The female jumped up, “Oh crap,” she started to run out of the room but stopped. Turning she ran back to her Elaysian friend and planted a soft kiss on his cheek. “It’s got some more features, but we can go over that later.” She patted him on the shoulder, “I’m glad you like it now go find out if they have an assignment for you.”

“Yes, Captain,” he joked. The two had known each other for years. Each of them an only child and despite the rank difference they latched onto each other forming a pseudo-brother-sister relationship. Their families were complicated, they were really the only family they had.

Kim turned to face Jarzo as she gave him a rather inappropriate hand gesture, “Stow it, Lieutenant,” she laughed as she turned to leave.

Jarzo pressed the button again, this time lowering the chair into its normal position. He had to admit, he was curious about his next assignment. He had reported to the station almost a week ago, been assigned temporary quarters, and even was picking up shifts assisting the Diplomatic Department. He hated just sitting and waiting, the extra work helped to keep his mind occupied.

However, there was nothing like knowing where he was going. Sure, the station was nice but it wasn’t what he wanted. He wanted to be out there, on a ship. He just needed one of these Commanding Officers to accept his transfer, which seemed to be taking longer than normal. He maneuvered over to the replicator, “Computer Vulcan spice tea, hot.”

He sipped the drink, as he thought about the future. Jarzo sat the cup on the nearby table. He looked down at his chair, “So very different,” he spoke.

He reached over, taking one last sip, realizing he had two choices in front of him; sit here and wait or find something to do. Grabbing a pad, he tucked it into a pocket on the chair as he made his way to the door. “Perhaps, I can find a holosuite for use,” he laughed, “Maybe one more look at home, and then just who knows…”
