Mission: Picking up the pieces
721 words - 1.4 OF Standard Post Measure

Michael sat at his desk something he rarely did unless he really needed to do so. Today was catch-up on paperwork day, and it appeared that he had a bit to do. He made it through most of the pile when he found the transfer orders for a Petty Officer Kimberly Sloan. He also remembered that Ames had mentioned that there was a new person that was part of the crew.

"Computer where is the location of Chief Sloan?" deciding to find out where the woman was at.

"Chief Sloan is in her quarters," the computer replied.

Kim had hit the Andromeda with a bang. Jumping right into her jump she'd already logged more hours this week than she had logged in the past month. Of course, waiting around a station for your next assignment made it rather hard to work. She was glad for the work, but also equally glad for a bit of downtime. As an Enlisted, she didn't expect much for a bunk, so she rarely took any personal effects with her on an assignment. But she still had to get things put together, at least attempt to make her shared quarters look like a home.

Michael arrived at Sloan's quarters and pressed the chime to announce that someone was there. He will wait until Sloan or someone answered. While he waited, Hawkins pulled out his Padd, to check on the next part of business he was needing to work on.

From her bunk, Kimberly sat up as she turned to face the door. She wasn't sure on duty for a bit and wasn't expecting company. She debated pretending she wasn't there for a bit, but it would be hard to explain that. "Enter," she called out. After seeing the Lieutenant she stood up, a bit too fast as she smacked her head on the shelf next to her.

Rubbing her head she winced, "Lieutenant," she tried to force a smile, " what can I do for you?"

Hawkins winced at Sloan hitting her head, and realizing that he must have interrupted her sleep. "Oh boy, um sorry, I didn't realize you were getting some rack time. I can talk with you later." actually blushing, and getting ready to turn to leave. "I'll message you later on, and we can chat." turning his back to her. Being the gentleman that he was.

Kim stepped forward as she placed a hand on the man's shoulder, "no, no you are fine Lieutenant," she smiled, "you're already here. So, what can I do for you?" Her room wasn't exactly prepped for company, but she wasn't exactly on duty either. She brushed some clothing off of a nearby chair, "please come in."

Michael turned back around. "Sure." taking a seat on the chair she cleared off. "I just wanted to touch base and see how you are settling in, and well meet you instead of just looking at your image and not knowing whom you are besides what's written in your file. Ames said you've been a really good addition to the engineering team."

"Well, I can appreciate that," Kim smiled, "the ship has a good crew and a fairly good Engineering Department. It was easy to settle right in and find my niche. As far as setting in, honestly, it's a duty shift or here. I haven't ventured out into the ship or its various amenities yet. But it's on the list.

"I do like the engineering crew I work alongside with. Granted there are a couple of rogues or three." Michael chuckling. "However I've not seen any slackers, they get in, do their job and then go and have a bit of fun." his smile slipped slightly. "I won't call them perfect either, after all, we have our quirks and faults just from being human or humanoid."

"Most Engineers have quirks," she smiled, "but your Engineering team seems pleasant, and the few I have interacted with I have respected their input." Kim wasn't sure what the boss wanted, she wasn't used to Officers coming down to the Enlisted quarters to hang out. It was odd.

Michael smiled, "Well I won't keep you any longer I've got to get going. I'll see you around." rising up from his seat and headed out the door.
