Tia had decided that she was just going to do it. She was going to walk up and speak to Eddie. Yes, it was a horribly embarrassing situation but it wasn't his fault and she hoped he wasn't feeling bad about it. Her worst fear was that somehow he would be angry with her for embarrassing him. The only way she was going to find out was to talk to him. She could sense some things from him but mostly she thought he was just confused. As was she. She didn't know how she knew what emotions were going through him, she just did.

Taking a deep breath, Tia approached him at a table in the lounge where he appeared to be trying to do homework. Maybe this wasn't the best time . . . . but she just needed him to say it was okay. "Hi," she said, trying to sound as cheerful as she could. "I know this is really weird and everything, but I still want to be friends with you."

"I'm not, not friends with you," he sighed looking round. "I just don't know what to say. And my dad pretty much mortified me beyond belief."

Tia wasn't quite sure what he meant at first. But her face flushed and she whispered in an anguished tone, "I'm so sorry Eddie. I didn't know this would happen." The bond felt like a little tug just behind her belly button, wanting to stay close to him. But she understood what it was and she wasn't going to remain in the room if he didn't want her to.

"I mean in front of you who I actually quite like ….. ermm as a friend," he flushed hoping this bond didn't pick up on things like a betazoid did. "Thinking stuff he shouldn't. Not trusting me, and I'm the one who can't have a pet and has to prove responsibility.

He raised an arm as one of the waiters walked over. "Your usual young man?"

"Yeah," he muttered.

"I don't know where he puts it all you know, never seems to put weight on, all these sweets. Good genes I guess," he chuckled at Tia. "Would you like a rigeilian hot chocolate with all the trimmings too miss?"

She was staring oddly at the waiter when he asked the question but shook her head. Her stomach was knotted into a ball, she couldn't handle that. "No, but can I get a Shirley Temple?"

"No problem little one," he said disappearing towards the bar.

"You shouldn't be apologising," Eddie said suddenly. "He's the captain but sure could do with working on his parenting you know. I might have to have True kick him into touch. What about your parents? What did they ….. did they react better?"

"I guess he just really worries about you. But he shouldn't. I think you're pretty responsible. I mean I let you into my room, something could have happened, but it didn't. They're okay I guess. Mostly in shock but they're not saying I can't go places and do things."

"What could have happened?" Eddie asked curious. She had been the one wanting to go to her room. What did she mean? Did she like him? Or was this link dangerous. She had got sick. If they hadn't of gone to sickbay … should he be around her now? What if it happened again?

"I dunno, you could have tried something. Not saying you would have . . . but parents are always warning about things like that aren't they?" She shook her head and sat down, he hadn't offered her a seat but as they were now talking okay she assumed it was fine.

"I could have tried something. You wanted me to come to your room," he was suddenly very annoyed.

"One Shirley temple and a large super triple hot chocolate, marshmallows, cream and brownie bits. Just how you lik ….." the waiter trialed off noticing the tension between these two youngsters.

"Enjoy …" he said quickly turning tale and scurrying back to the bar.

Tia sat there trying to figure out why he was suddenly getting mad and then it dawned on her. "I didn't think you would, not at all. I trust you Eddie. And . . . I like you too. I mean I think I do. There must be some reason this happened right?"

The blond winced as him empathic sense told him she was telling the truth. He felt bad for his outburst. "I was going to ask you out you know," he blushed.

"All the guys like you. My Klingon friend is writing you a poem. I don't think I should have said that …." he muttered.

It was certainly a lot to think about. "Well I don't know if my parents would let me date. And I'm pretty sure your dad would freak out. But we spend a lot of time together as it is. So we could just keep doing this kind of stuff? That's . . . okay. I didn't know Klingons wrote poetry."

"Well they call it poetry …" Eddie said. He couldn't help but laugh. Which he supposed was good when he was under the impression he had just been ….what was the archaic term … friend zoned.

"If he does read it too you don't throw anything or get mad. They take that as …. you know you like them. Very confusing species."

"Yeah. The only Klingons I've met seem like they're angry all the time. I don't like people who are angry it makes me uncomfortable." Tia didn't think she could exactly describe it, it just made all of the hairs on her body stand up and made her shiver thinking about it. She supposed she panicked a little bit and didn't really understand why. "I hope he decides to keep it," Tia said sounding a little worried now. She changed the subject. "Do you want to talk to my parents with me about getting a bearded dragon?"

Eddie took a large bite of his brownie and chewed thoughtfully. “I guess.” If the goddesses weren’t letting him have a girlfriend hopefully he got to be involved with a cool pet. And he kind of owed her especially as she was willing to still let him be involved with a potential bearded dragon.

His dad had given Tia a hard time. He had to face her parents. Yup there was this weird bond but apparently it took both of them to set it off. Although only the goddesses knew what they were going to be like with him.

"Don't be nervous, they're nice." Tia assured him as she pulled her drink towards her and sucked down the bubbly sweet liquid with a straw. "And I really think they will let me get one. But I would like some help with it."

"I'm not nervous," Eddie felt the need to state firmly. Of course he was but he didn't want her going around thinking that. "We did nothing wrong. Like you said you didn't know this was going to happen. Nobody even understands yet what it is all about this … link .. bond thing."

He stuffed another mouthful of his dessert in his mouth and chewed quickly. "And yes I would like to help out," he said round the mouthful of brownie. "If they let you have one."

Tia was suddenly much happier. Eddie didn't hate her for what had happened, he was going to talk to her parents with her about getting a pet and this Shirley Temple tasted really good. The stress of earlier in the week, which had made her tired and emotional, was subsiding. Pure contentment was taking over. "Good," she smiled.

"Right …. so when's this happening?" he asked. He could sense she was less stressed.

"Oh, whenever you like though I think we should look up some things about them and how to take care of them. This shows initiative and that we're responsible." Tia said very seriously. "Are you free after we finish here?"

"Hand on," Eddie said as he sudden sensed his father initiate some telepathic contact. "Dad …" he tapped his head.

"Give me half an hour … I have to go pick up a purple bag off him and take it to True. Weird. He sounds stressed though so I better do it." He kind of felt saved by the how did that put it … bell or Parental order in this case. Still though he had to see her parents now.

"Oh okay, sure. We can do it another time. No hurry." Tia said as he got up. "I'll see you later then."
