ON:

Amelia stepped onto the bridge about 10 minutes late. "Morning all. I see you survived without me for a while." The duty officer who was on the previous shift had stayed behind. He rose from the command chair. "I wasn't going to say, anything Lieutenant."

She smiled at him gratefully. "I won't forget this, I relive you. anything to report?"

"Nothing so far. Everything quiet." He nodded, then headed for the turbolift. Amelia sat down in the Captain's chair.

Jon had noticed Fox was late and had another issue to discuss with her, so once he knew she was on the bridge he summoned her to his ready room.

Amelia had barely sat down before she heard the Captain's voice. She rose and looking to the officer at Ops "You have the bridge." With a spring in her step, she walked over and entered the ready room. "Good morning Captain, and what can I do for you today. not much to report I'm afraid."

"Well I seem to be having that problem in spades Fox. The security guard I asked to follow Syvar has not reported in to me. I don't suppose you know anything about that do you? Also how come your late … oh …." he said catching her emotions. "Who's the guy? You are practically glowing."

Amelia paused and took a deep breath, aware that Syvar was in a lot of trouble as it was. She decided to leave the mind-meld details out for now. "I met Doctor Syvar last night and had to stop him from going to the brig as it would have put his career in jeopardy. I told the security officer to stand down as... I was very aware of Syvar's location the entire night."

Two things happened in Jon's head. The first, he realised she was saying that Syvar tried to undermine his orders again. Then slightly later his brain decoded the last sentence his XO has just shared. Anger was mixed with shock. "Fox are you telling me you stayed the night with Syvar ….. " Jon was pacing now as he swung round rapidly to look at her again.

"Syva'rs the guy? And ordered the security guard not to do what I told him too?"

Amelia stood her ground. "Yes, Captain. Syvar is... the guy as you put it but he didn't disobey your orders. He did not enter the brig last night and he will not do again unless you permit it. As for the security guard, I gave him a direct order and told I'm I would report to you in the morning which is what I am doing, Sir."

"I'm not a first time command officer," Jon looked at her evenly. "Your attempt to put a best spin on things is admiral but you have shown some pretty bad judgement here. That man is traumatised by your evil double."

"I'm aware of that Captain..." Amelia interrupted him "While I know I'm not responsible, I feel like I am and I want to help him in any way I can. He seems to be making progress on the road to recovery. He has already said he feels no loyalty to her and will not see her again."

"You shouldn't be taking responsibility for his recovery Fox. We have a counselling department for that. I get it, I think …. but jumping into bed with him was not the right thing to do," Jon insisted.

"It's not just feeling responsible..." Amelia started with some passion, then got herself under control. "I have feelings for him. He means a lot to me and these feelings are reciprocated. Deeply. I know it wasn't the right thing to do up here.." She pointed to her head." She moved to rest over her heart "But it was the right thing to do in here."

"Oh geez …," he muttered. "I have concerns," he said honestly. "I think you need to slow it down but … you're both grown ups."

Amelia nodded. "Yes Sir, I understand. Thank You. If there isn't anything else I'll be on the bridge."

"Not at present. Dismissed Fox," Jon said.
