Jon led his XO to his ready room after the mission brief. He could sense she wasn't happy.

"Tea," he said simply. "Decaffeinated of course."

Amelia accepted the cup and sat down across from him. "Sooo... You want to lead the away team?" You know I won't disagree with you in front of the crew but in here... We've lost contact with the colony. We're not sure what happened. Don't you think it would be a better idea for you to come down on the second away team once the colony is secured and we have an idea of what happened?"

"It's not a case of I want to Fox. Its a case of I am going to lead this away team. I have decided." Jon said firmly. "Sometimes I will be on the away team. Not everyone but my guts telling me this time is one of the right times.

Also, I'm not wanting to put my pregnant XO in the way of the unknown. Your not indestructible and you're growing a new innocent life in there," he indicated her starting to swell belly.

Amelia put her hands in her hips. “With all due respect I’m not the first person to have a baby and I’ve not suddenly turned into a fragile flower. I’m not that far on to prevent me from doing my job. I’m still your first officer and pregnant or not if you insist on going on this away mission, I shall be coming too. Someone has to look out for you.” She added with a mischievous smile.

"You will be joining me in the second group once we have established that what is happening in the colony is safe for a pregnant woman to be around," Jon said firmly. "You can simmer away thinking I think you're a fragile flower all you like. This is how it's going to work. I will have Leighton with me to keep an eye on me and I strongly suspect Hawkins will have the same thoughts there too. So don't fret. No one's going to let me have too much fun.

In fact, I think Trues planning on having the same safety talk with me after we are done. But as I said my guts telling me I need to go on this one."

Amelia nodded "Very well Captain, I'll respect your decision. Just remember that as the first officer it's my duty to look after the Captain. You're not indestructible either. Unless there is something you're not telling me" she said with a sly smile as she finished off her tea. "This is, after all a Federation colony and the risk is minimal but If you think this means I'm going to start beaming into hazardous areas I'm afraid you're mistaken. And don't worry, when I'm the size of a shuttle I shall be playing the pregnancy card heavily..."

"You won't get to the size of a shuttle number one," Jon chuckled. "Your ankles might swell up don't get me wrong and one day your gonna be wanting some bizarre combination like pickles, kimden bread and rainbow icing in one go."

"Oh, I speak from experience Captain." Amelia said as she stood up. "Every time my mother was expecting and when my grandmother was expecting it looked like they had swallowed a planet. Expect this..." She patted her slightly swollen stomach "To get a whole lot bigger. It runs in the family."

"I'm familiar with pregnancy," he winked at her. "We have bigger uniforms and no way will you get bigger than your chair."

”I hope so,” Amelia said wistfully. ”Is there anything else Captain?”

Jon looked at her and thought for a second, "Do you think your mirror counterpart is actually dead?" he asked suddenly. "I just have this feeling .... that's she's indestructible number one."

Amelia thought for a moment. Eventually, she shook her head slowly. ”No, I think it she's still alive. She's too smart to blow herself up, she must have planned for something like that to happen.”

Jon chewed the inside of his cheek. "Which if true, makes her so much more dangerous. We need to be on high alert number one. If she's alive she has unfinished business. Especially if that baby in her stomach is your husbands."

That last comment sent a shiver down her spine. She unconsciously placed on hand on her stomach gently. "Aye Sir. I'll let you know when we're ready to get underway."
