ON:

Jon accompanied his son and ex wife to the ship and to her quarters. Eddie had decided to stay with his mother this evening to help her settle in. He had a much more caring temperament than him, he feared. Charlotte had been amenable in him not fighting that even though he had not seen his son for a while, to agree to meet to hammer out a fairer schedule and how they were going to co-parent the next day. He knew well enough if he had a chance of success with that right now the best thing to do was get out of her way and leave her too it.

Walking back to his own quarters on the docked Andromeda he got a message from the bridge. =^=Sir, the new CMO is now on board =^=

Thanking whoever was manning the comms up there Jon decided he had better go and meet whoever Starfleet had decided to place with him. And it would take his mind off his son being so close but not being able to spend time with him right now.

He stopped at a console. "Computer where is the CMO?"

=^=Dr Hope is in Sickbay =^= the Console replied with a jaunty artificially reproduced 'voice'.

As the door pulled back Jon groaned inwardly. ~Damn it~. She was beautiful and covered in Trill spots and he usually got in trouble when he was around women he found beautiful. He could almost hear a voice in his head going "danger danger".

"Doctor"

"Not now... I haven't been here five minutes and i haven't even been allocated my quarters but already I can see this Sickbay is nowhere NEAR ready even for a jumble sale, let alone to function as a state of the art medical facility!" she snapped without even looking round. "Here, please help me by getting my bags sent up to whatever rooms I'm supposed to have and let's get started." She waved an arm towards a pile of holdalls, back-packs and suit-bags, pulling an overall off a peg inside a rickety locker that immediately dropped a widget onto the floor defiantly. "And NOW the cupboards are falling apart even before we've cleaned and filled them!!" she growled, wrenching off her jacket and jumper and pulling on the overall in their place still without turning back.

As she straightened the collar, flicking it free of her hair which she immediately twisted up into an instant knot which looked very complicated but which she achieved in seconds. She turned, a frown settling on her face as she noticed that her bags hadn't moved as she had instructed.

Finally making a full turn to look right at Jon quizzically, still straightening the white coat over her uniform standard vest and buttoning it from the top down, her ample curves resisting the protective garment initially until she tugged it free and patted it down into place.

Seeing the face that she recognised from the data padd she had been given on assignment to this vessel, Naiya's face screwed up into a grimace.

"Ah! You're not who I thought I was talking to Sir" she said, biting her lip and creasing her brow like a child caught with a hand in the cookie jar.

"I do apologise, Commander" she went on and approached him with her hand out to offer to shake his.

"I'm Lt (junior grade).... about to become Ensign I imagine..... Naiya Hope" she confirmed having the grace to colour, her blush giving her pink cheeks and an even more guilty look. "I will take up my own bags Sir, as soon as I can get this Sickbay organised." she rolled her eyes around her to demonstrate and added "with your permission?"

Jon didn't know whether to laugh out loud or play dead serious. "Relax Doctor," he settled on with what he hoped was a warm smile. He took the offered hand but couldn't stop his natural empathic gifts from the touch. Some part of her, subconsciously liked the look of him. And yes danger danger multiplied, especially as he found himself thinking she looked adorable right now having found herself in this awkward situation.

Pulling his hand back he looked round. She certainly had a lot of bags!

"I'm not in the business of demoting staff for running a tight ship and on their first day," he said looking back at her, and I'm sure we can get someone to move your bags to your quarters, so you can focus on whatever task you deem necessary and are at hand."

"Thank you Sir, that would be most helpful. I do have a stack of things to do and they're in the way to be honest." she agreed, smiling back at him, her green-hazel eyes glittering with the excitement of a new position, a new Sickbay that was all hers to lick into shape and a new, very nice looking CO to put the icing on the cake. ~Eye candy is always a nice bonus.~ she thought absently. "I'm sorry for the confusion. I will have it all straight as soon as possible" she said, kicking herself for letting her mind wander. "Is there anything I can do for you Sir? Did you come to Sickbay for assistance?" she meant medical first aid but the query was valid for whatever it might bring in reply.

"Well a couple of reasons, 1 - I thought if I was a good boy and submitted straight away to my physical that would set the precedence for the rest of the crew not to try skirt you but I can clearly see if they tried it you wouldn't take any prisoners. And 2 - Starfleet informs me your also to be my second officer, so when the bridge informed me you had arrived on board I decided to come down. I was curious," he said honestly.

"Ah! Good thinking!" she grinned, approving of the idea that he was going to be supportive of getting the new crew to report for their physicals promptly despite the chaos moving it and launching would no doubt throw them all into. "i appreciate your making a positive example Sir but as you can see, you have caught me on the back foot. I would be most glad to do your physical but the equipment isn't all unpacked, installed or tested. Some of it is, but nowhere near enough for us to start treating anyone." she shook her head regretfully. "I'd been hoping the installations would have been done so we could unpack the supplies....." she looked helplessly around with a shrug. "And I'm grateful for you coming to me. Most COs would just summon their staff to them. It's good of you to welcome me on my first day. Thank you" again the winning smile because she was genuinely impressed that he'd taken the trouble, put himself out and was being supportive all at once. Things were looking bright if he was going to keep this up.

"Then I shall make an appointment to come bother you for a physical at a more appropriate time, and have a word with engineering to send people to get Sickbay operational," he said simply. It was that simple.

"Also I need to invite you to a party on the station in a couple of days. Its two fold, we are celebrating it being 20 years since the reunification of the Ba'Ku and So'Na, so some delegates even Ba'Ku," he added intrigued, "will be in attendance. And also doubling as kind of a bon chance soiree for us and the other two ships going into the Beta quadrant too. Dress uniform. Lots of ambassadors., Diplomatic faces. All that jazz."

"Even Ba'Ku Sir?" Naiya repeated, the slight rise in one eyebrow and the sparkle in her eyes giving him a hint that she was toying with him on this comment.

He could sense she was messing around, so just grinned. "So they tell me. Let's see if we can find one at the reception then we can clarify that. Are you game Doctor?" he suggested playfully back.

"Oh yes please Sir, I've always wanted to meet one. Do they really have green skin and red eyes?" she asked, her tongue so far in her cheek now that she was in danger of biting it. She remained playful though, her smirk friendly and without any malice.

"Oh I don't know," Jon said back keeping his face very serious, "I heard it was red skin and green eyes."

She looked worried. "That's quite close to my looks..... " she said, with an alarmed tone. "I wonder if I have any of those genes in me?" she put her hand to her mouth as if shocked by the idea.

"Well your the doc, you can do tests and the such," he said. She was still sensing as she was amused but he wasn't really sure where it was going.

"I'm handy with genetics. Would you like me to do yours?" she asked lightly.

Jon wasn't sure if that was the start of a loaded question or not. The discovery of his half brother Declan and his twins potential mutation from an alien piece of tech in a log buoy, not to mention his mother's own lineage made him a little nervous at looking into genetics. Hopefully the woman in front of him just meant she was going to tell him he was a hybrid.

"Okay," he said neutrally. It wouldn't do for the Captain to look like he was hiding something. "Hit me doc."

"I don't hit people Sir" she laughed. "It would be contra-indicative to my Hippocratic oath" her chuckle was almost melodious. "How about if I just take a look at your files and let you know if you're descended from any axe-wielding barbarians? Would that be helpful in your everyday work Commander?" her eyes sparkled with mischief as she ran his standard tests, logged the results and eventually handed him a data-rod containing the details she had just loaded up into the Confidential Medical Files on the computer and a certificate that would be able to be kept until it began to remind him to come back in a year's time. A very annoying little piece of ingenuity that most people found deep and soundproof 'safe places' to hide them.

"Here is your datarod Sir. You're cleared for duty on medical grounds, now all you need is to see the counsellor and we're on the road to adventure!" she smiled softly at him. He did seem very nice. She was passing him on other grounds for 'hot and worth another look' definitely.

"Thanks doc," he smiled taking the datarod off her, his fingers touching hers briefly. Was that a spark? Yep he was in trouble.
