Medical and Debrief

Posted on 27 Nov 2019 @ 6:29pm by Commander Amelia Fox & Captain Jonathan Reynolds & Lieutenant Commander Aidan Datari

Mission: Mission 2 - The Agora crossroads
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: A little while after return
2534 words - 5.1 OF Standard Post Measure

Knowing he probably should've gone to sickbay straight away, Aidan walked into the medical facility some time after his return to the ship. He just didn't want to be stuck in medical straight after regaining his freedom and so had desired to spend some time with the people he cared about most. Emme had escorted him up until the doors and he'd been grateful for her presence. Yet he was still sure about not wanting her to see what had been done to him.

Now, grimacing as he walked, he walked in to sickbay not knowing who to expect. He knew there was a new CMO, but he hadn't obviously met her yet. He had originally expected to be treated by Syvar, yet as he glanced around there was no sign of the young Vulcan.

"Doctor?" he called out, his discomfort clearly audible in his voice.

Maeve had been dictating her report on her last patient when she heard the voice come from the next room. "Pause recording," she said to the computer before picking up her tricorder. Maeve stepped calmly into the main room but when she saw Aidan she immediately hurried to take his arm and help him to the examining table.

Maeve tapped her combadge and said "Nurse McCall to sickbay, stat," then looked into Aidan's eyes. "Tell me what happened, Lieutenant..."

Amelia had just finished her duty shift and was heading back to her quarters. as she stepped off the turbolift she stopped. Her feelings about the last away mission were still troubling her and she hadn't had a chance to talk to Aidan about what happened to them yet. She spoke to the computer. "Computer. Locate Lieutenant Datari."

"Lieutenant Datari is in Sickbay."

She headed off down the corridor with a new purpose.

Aidan hissed as he was guided to one of the beds. "Perhaps I should show you," he said quietly, starting to pull off the tunic he was still wearing. He hadn't changed since coming home, but now he needed to anyway. "Can you please close the privacy screen?" he murmured, not really wanting to strip in front of the entire medical staff.

Amelia entered to find Aidan talking to an Orion female she hadn't seen before. This must be our new Doctor she thought as she approached them.

Maeve noticed the exec approaching them. She hadn't met the woman yet but recognized her from her medical records. Maeve was bubbly and friendly most of the time but when it came to her patients she was as protective as a mother cat. "I'll be with you in a moment, exec," she said to Amelia and then to the air she said "computer, privacy screen."

After checking his eyes and pallor Maeve helped Aidan carefully remove his tunic. She drew a breath in through her teeth when she saw the mass of bruises and welts covering his back. After a quick examination to make sure he had no other serious injuries she said, in the most comforting voice she could muster, "here, lay on your stomach." Nurse McCall arrived a moment later and Maeve instructed her to bring a warm blanket into the screened area. The nurse did so and covered Aidan's lower half as Maeve completed a careful examination of his injuries.

Maeve leaned over and stroked Aidan's hair soothingly, telling him "We'll give you something for the pain then we'll see about these bruises," then she turned to McCall and continued "5cc Metorapan then bring the deep tissue regenerator in here." Then Maeve left the screened area and strode towards her office.

Amelia stepped toward her as she came out of the privacy screen. "You must be our new CMO." She extended her hand. "Welcome aboard Doctor. I'm Lieutenant Fox, the XO. How is Lieutenant Datari? May I speak with him?"

The orion doctor stopped abruptly in front of the exec, causing her hair to fall into her eyes. Tucking the errant hair behind her ear she smiled brightly and accepted the handshake. "it's a pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant Fox. I'm Doctor Maeve, your new CMO," she said and then turned back to the privacy screen and added, in a louder voice, "Lieutenant Datari, you have a visitor."

Aidan tried to lift himself up a little so he could look over his shoulder. "Let her in," he called back, having recognized Amelia's voice. Somehow having the XO see him in this state felt less agonizing than having his own wife see it. Perhaps, he reconsidered, he should've let her but he really didn't want to worry her more than she already did. Not in her current condition.

With Aidan's okay Maeve motioned the exec to go ahead through the privacy screen. "I'll be back in a moment, exec" she said before returning to her errand.

Amelia smiled at her. "Thanks Doc." she said before entering.

Nurse McCall gently laid a gentle hand on Aidan's arm and told him "you need to lay back down, sir."

Aidan laid himself back down, not quite sure how to hold himself. "Lieutenant.." he greeted his XO. "How are you holding up? Where is Iola? Have you seen to her?"

Amelia's face went pale as she caught sight of Aidan's wounds and the look of pain on his face. "I've just come off duty and I thought... I needed to see how you were doing. I believe our newest passenger has been given guest quarters. I haven't checked in with her yet."

She grabbed a small stool and pulled it up to sit beside his bed. "Lieutenant... Aidan... I ..." This was quite difficult for her as normally she didn't dwell on the past what might have been. But her actions had injured someone else this time and it was weighing on her mind.

"I wanted to apologise for what happened at the Crossroads and explain. Apparently you were very much in demand and I didn't have enough latinum on me to secure your release. It was only with the help of J'Tan that I was able to purchase Rose and True. Haulval went missing and is still missing at this time."

"You don't need to apologise," the Trill answered, hoping the doctor would return to treat him. "Even if you had enough, Don would've outbid you regardless of your bids. She wanted me, so she would've at any cost. Despite the evidence I was treated very well. These injuries are on me, because I did explore the options of escape." He smiled thinly at her. "I wouldn't have been a very good officer if I hadn't tried."

As Maeve came back out of her office she heard the conversation and decided it would be best to give the two a moment, so she used the time to warm the large jar of faintly yellow cream she had just retrieved. Nurse McCall also chose this time to step away and get the regenerator Maeve had ordered.

Knowing that he wasn’t harbouring any ill feeling towards her, Amelia felt a lot better and it showed on her face. She smiled at home “I probably would have tried to escape myself. I just didn’t want you thinking I didn’t fight to save you as well as the others. Did you manage to find any information while you were there? Like on this Laemia person? He contacted the ship before we beamed down.” She shuddered at the thought, which was unusual for her. She continued. “I don’t know what it is about that man, but he... unnerved me. Me of all people! I can face down a stampede of Klingons but the way that man looked at me! it was...” she struggled to find the right words. “Weird. Like he already knew me.”

"I've met him when we visited his sector for business purposes. He expressed a creepy interest in me but Don... she expressed firmly that I wasn't up for bargain. I don't know much else about him except that he seems Human to me. Which is odd because to my knowledge we haven't traded here before? The girl who..." He hesitated, closing his eyes at the horrific memory. "Who exploded just before you came...she said she was taken from a transport.." He paused. "She was sent to kill the Don, I have no doubt of that. But she was so scared when she figured it out, I don't think she knew.."

“Do you think it was Laemia who sent her?” She asked him. A look of horror on her face. “To use someone like that you’d have to be one cold sadistic ruthless heartless psychopath.”

Carefully, Aidan nodded. "I suspect so yes." He reached to scratch at his temple; for some reason his spots were itching. He saw Amelia watch him and he frowned. "Is it as bad as I suspect it is?" He asked slowly, referring to his backside. "I haven't been able to see it but the way it feels...I think it's bad and I'm glad Em doesn't have to see it."

Amelia looked at his back and tried to answer tactfully but truthfully. "Well, you've looked better lets put it that way." She noticed him scratching his head. "Is something bothering you?"

"I don't know...my spots are itchy... That's unusual, I've never had that happen before." He tried not to move to much, but being idle wasn't in his nature. "Looked better huh..well I hope doc can fix it, whatever it looks like. It's extremely uncomfortable."

Maeve and the nurse both chose this moment to return, Maeve squeezing in past Amelia while the nurse wheeled a cart holding the regenerator next to the other side of the bed. "Excuse us, you two, but we really do need to start working on these injuries," Maeve said to them as she opened the large jar and scooped out a large blob of the cream inside. "You can keep talking," Maeve said. "Just please hold as still as you can. This cream will help the healing process." After checking to be sure the analgesic had done it's job, Maeve started gently spreading the cream over Aidan's back.

Jons head appeared just in front of the the privacy screen. He didn't look at Datari directly. He couldn't anyway as the privacy screen blurred him and Fox out. He had caught the back end of that conversation though after taking his new envoy to guest quarters and then heading after the Trill. He knew he would have hightailed it to his wife. He couldn't blame him he supposed.

"The new doc will fix it Aidan I have complete confidence in that. I'm in agreement that the girl who blew up was sent by this Laemia. I know your not in the best place but I need to know more about this Iona. And as she trusts you, when your back up to full health I want you to teach her how to speak. If thats possible. The poor woman."

Aidan lifted his head up again. "Do come in captain," he said softly, "and I fully intend to sir, that was part of the agreement wasn't it?"

McCall gently scolded Aidan and pushed his head back down again.

"Well I will be honest, I would have played any agreement or trick in the book to get you out of there. I was not going to leave you to endure being a slave to anyone …. and if you think shes decent then I trust you. She will be looked after, you know that. If she wants asylum, I will grant it. But more importantly, your health. Both physical and mental. Are you okay?" he asked.

"I trust her, she looked out for me." Aidan fell silent for a few seconds as he considered the question. "No sir," he finally answered softly, even softer than before as he briefly closed his eyes. "I'm not okay."

Jon nodded. He knew that already. "Go see Counselor Keating Aidan at your earliest convenience. I would rather not make it an order but I like your wife so I will if I need too. But know you were strong in my eyes. Commend yourself for that. Take what time you need also."

"There's no need to make it an order sir, I had already intended to go see the counselor." The Trill paused again. "I'm not sure about strong sir... I was ready to give in sir... Give up and serve, I wouldn't have been able to take another such disciplining. It was humiliating."

"I can imagine," Jon said uncomfortably. This was definitely a True and Aidan conversation. "But you were strong Aidan. Just trust in yourself."

"Yes sir... If you say so." Aidan clearly wasn't convinced.

Nurse McCall passed one end of the regenerator over Aiden's back to Maeve. They attached the legs of the device to either side of the exam table and then slid it up so it straddled Aidan's shoulders. McCall took Aidan's hands gently and helped him place them on the table above his head. Maeve leaned close to his head and said, "We're going to start at your shoulders and work down, Lieutenant. Please stay as still as you can and let us know right away if you experience any discomfort." Maeve activated the machine, which hummed softly and projected a beam of soft golden light over Aidan's shoulders as it worked.

His position was highly uncomfortable, with his hands resting above his head on the bed. It was putting quite a strain on his back, even if he was well trained and generally very flexible. "Yes doctor," he replied obediently. "How long will this take?"

"Just a few minutes," Maeve replied, then noticed his discomfort. "Try putting your head on your hands like your taking a nap, but don't move too much." Maeve watch the machine hawk-eyed, scanning with her tricorder to be certain it was doing it's job. When she was satisfied it was working she turned to Captain Reynolds and said "Captain, Lieutenant Datari needs to rest after this."

Shifting as directed, Aidan tried to make himself a little more comfortable. "Do I need to stay here or can I rest at home?"

Maeve smiled and replied "at home will be fine, but I do want you back here tomorrow for a check-up."

"Yes ma'am," the Trill replied, though relief at not having to stay in sickbay washed over his face. "I'm sure Em will be happier with that too.. and Sherlock. They'll watch me like a hawk."

"I'll pop by and check in on you later," Amelia added.

Aidan gave a minute nod, as he'd been told not to move too much. He closed his eyes again, trying to relax while the doctor worked.
