ON:

True pressed the chime to (wherever this is taking place?) and stepped back. "It will be fun, I promise. Eddie is really nice and he doesn't mind that you have no idea how to play this because I don't either. We'll both be learning."

"Okay," Tia said, having been taught that it wasn't nice to contradict an adult, still . . . she had her doubts about this working. Tia was quiet, a lot of people had told her that. She had a hard time making friends, probably because she'd grown up in the middle of nowhere and didn't really know what she should do when she met someone new.

They entered the room and True smiled at the boys. "This is Tia, make her feel welcome please, I've already talked all of you up," she joked.

Tia's green eyes were wide as she looked around the table they were sitting at, studying each one of them until she found whom she assumed was Eddie as he seemed to be staring at her the hardest when she met his gaze. She didn't break the stare, not sure if this was supposed to happen or not.

Eddie didn't break his stare either. "Take a seat," he said.

"Next to me," his Klingon friend said moving to push the free chair next to him out for her.

"And you madam," he grinned his toothy grin at True, "Must sit my other side. Please."

"Thanks," Tia said, trying to control her nerves. She sat down where indicated. When a strand of her medium brown hair fell down into her eyes she brushed it back up again, making sure a pin grabbed it this time.

True smiled and took the seat Eddie had indicated as well. "Thank you for letting us come. I promise I'm a fast learner and I'm sure Tia is too."

"Crisps?" Eddie said offering a bowl to Tia. "We thought we might play the guardians of Mortok …. its like a cross between a Klingon tradegy and D&D. We would have to work out a character for you both first."

"Princess," ….

"Metek … there is no princess," Eddie snorted.

"She would make a beautiful princess. Both would Eddie," he insisted.

"In a game where we have princesses maybe ….."

The bolian boy rolled his eyes. "How do you feel about spellcaster or rogue?" he offered. "They don't have to play a female character just because they are female you know … Ladies what do you think?"

"Oh I think you're right Bok, I don't think we should be restricted to gender roles." True offered.

While spellcaster made sense to Tia, obviously it was some kind of wizard. "What's a rogue?" She asked quietly. She glanced down at the bowl that Eddie had offered her. It would probably be rude to refuse the food, even though she didn't know what it was. She took one and put it in her mouth, studying the sensations as she listened for the answer to her question.

"Erm well …. " Eddie thought about how best to explain. "A rogue is kinda like the name. A little sneaky and stealthy. Very dexterous and versatile. They can work in the shadows and manoeuvre very nimbly. Great for stealing and spying. I mean we might have a situation where those skills are required."

"Hmm," Tia said, her head turned ever so slightly as she seemed to gaze up the ceiling, lost in thought. "I really like the sound of that. Can I be one?"

True couldn't help but smile, it really did sound like Tia in her opinion. "I'm not sure what I want to be . . . what do you think we need, as a group? I'm not that picky really."

"Well," the Bolian continued, "A spellcaster would be useful. We don't know how many fights we will endure and you would have a very useful cure spell allowing us not to have to focus all our gold on potions ….."

"Yeah there is that," Eddie concurred, "Although if we have a successful rogue," his eyes flicked back to Tia, "potions could be stolen."

"I think best of both worlds," the Klingon chimed in.

True chuckled, boys were so cute. "Fine, I'll be a spellcaster and Tia? Do you want to be the rogue?"

Tia nodded, taking another of the crisps. She seemed to be questioning whether she liked them or not, either that or she just hadn't noticed that she'd taken another one and was making a slight face as she chewed on it. "How do we play?" She finally asked when she'd chewed and swallowed.

"Well I'm … going to be game master ….."

"I want to be game master … " the Klingon howled at Eddie.

"Oh and here we go …." the Bolian muttered.

Tia looked back and forth at the two of them but didn't say anything.

"Well just because your the captains son doesn't mean you get to do everything you want …" the Klingon stood up and slammed his hands on the table.

"I just thought," Eddie said copying him, "You would wan to be the big warrior. You know cause thats what your people aspire to be …."

"See what I have to put up with," the Bolian stated to the females. "In a couple of minutes they will be wrestling again and we will all end up going to sickbay."

"Hey Bok ….. NO," Eddie stated sharply. "Tru is my dads … girlfriend. Shut up. Enough of that." He seemed to calm down for a second and decide it wasn't worth it, "You know what Rezan game masters all yours."

The blond hybrid slid the book he was holding over to the Klingon. "I'll be a great warrior," he sniffed mainly for Tia's benefit.

"I suppose being game master is kind of like being the captain of a starship," True said, hoping to calm everyone down. "It might be a lot of fun to be able to mold the story and lead everyone but it comes with a great deal of responsibility and a lot of reflection afterwards."

"Are you going to make us do some kind of team building exercise? Cause I heard that last time that happened you got shot." Tia piped up looking at True.

"Well that's very correct, I did. But that had nothing to do with the other members of the team, there was an alien presence none of us realized was there and it was defending itself. It all worked out in the end." She assured Tia. "Fit as a fiddle," she said patting herself over where the bullet had gone through her.

"You got shot," Eddie said mouth open. "Does dad know?"

"You are a warrior," Rezan bowed his head to her. "Wear your scars with pride lady Tru."

"You know, I'm not sure if he does or not. I don't think we've discussed it. It should be in my file though. I decided not to have the scar removed from where it healed over. It's just a small scar." She said glancing at all the boys.

"You need to get them to pick a name and give out the sheets with the randomised stats," the Bolian said at the Klingons stare. This was going to be a long night.

"Of course," Rezan said. You could tell he was trying not to snap but the Klingon temper was there. He handed both Tru and Tia a sheet. On it was a bunch of statistics, Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma each having a starting number for them. Under the first chart was a list of what could only be described as skills ranging from acrobatics to survival.

"Ladies your characters stats. Please pick a name or title?"

It looked like a foreign language to Tia, she glanced at True wondering if this had been a mistake. "Uhm . . . I read this cool character in a book once. Her name was Erilyn. I could go with that."

"Oooh, that's a lovely choice." True said, still thinking about her name. "But I think I'll go with something a bit more traditional. How about Sera? It's an Earth name the burning one or the serpent."

"You also need to pick a race," The bolian stated. "Dragonborne, Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Orc, Halflings - various races, Human, Tiefing ….."

"Easy Bok," Eddie interjected. "Hes very serious about playing games. Look its a crossover remember. Theres a hundred different races we could include even Mortoks …. Your call but I'd say keep it simple."

"Yeah, I think just human for both of us." True nearly broke into the list of beings. "Until we really learn how to play the game."

Tia nodded though she had thought about an elf, but as she didn't really know what they did other than the elves in her books, it was best to keep it simple.

"Excellent .." Rezan stated. "Then lets begin. The guardians of Mortok. In the darkest days there were stories of an ancient race. The Mortoks. On a planet far on the outer ring of the Zetalop system. They were an advanced species. A peaceful one. There technology was envied amongst the galaxy. A darker race invaded. And then one day the Mortoks just disappeared … and the invaders poof they were gone too. Many an adventurer has visited and searched the planets ruins. Rumours of treasures from that time still be found a rife and our motley band of a warrior Eddie of …..

"The westlands," he replied.

"Zorn a high elf of …."

"Anzabar …. " Bok threw in …

"Lady Erilyn of …..

Tia scrunched up her nose. She really only had once place that she'd ever made up and she didn't know if she wanted to share it with them yet but as she couldn't think of anything else she decided to give them this little tidbit and hope they didn't somehow make fun of her for it. "Nelania."

And the renowned Spellcaster Sera of …...

"Seward," True tried not to chuckle. The wouldn't know the word, she was sure. It didn't sound all that exotic but it amused her to use the name of her hometown.

"Have received a clue to something ususual on that planet. In this quest you will try to unravel what is going on ….."
