ON:

Amelia had put in the request for new quarters having recently found out she was expecting and wanted to be closer to Syvar. Their new family quarters were a lot larger than their solo quarters had been and she had still managed to insist on having a kitchen area attached to an open plan dining area. Sometimes being the XO had its advantages.

Her things had been beamed in earlier that day and she now stood, slightly overwhelmed in the middle of the living room, taking it all in waiting for Syvar to arrive after his shift.

Not owning very much, Syvar's few belongings were transferred in one go and he arrived not much later after they had been. He too felt a little overwhelmed as this was certainly going much faster than he had originally planned in terms of starting a family. Usually, at least that was what he was taught, one spent months courting a woman, then slowly move in and then, after marriage, start a family.

To him, it felt as if he was doing it all the wrong way around. "Are you alright?" he asked as he walked up to Amelia and wrapped his arms around her.

She didn't have to turn around to know who it was, even before the door opened. Somehow she knew it was Syvar. She felt his arms wrap around her she felt safe. "I am. Just taking it all in." She slipped her hands over his arms and held him. "Are you? Alright?"

"Feeling a little overwhelmed," he admitted, "feeling like I'm doing this all the wrong way around, if you know what I mean?"

She turned around in his arms so she was facing him and placed a tender kiss on his lips. "I don't think there is a right way or a wrong way. I know that things never turn out the way you expect. I also know that right now, I couldn't be happier with the way things have turned out. I also know that with you here with me, we'll face whatever happens together."

"Oh I have no doubt that we'll be alright together," Syvar assured her, "I just feel that it's the wrong way around, not per se wrong altogether. Normally one would go on a few dates, then perhaps move in with each other, get married and then start thinking about children. We're doing it all in the wrong order."

She looked into his eyes and smiled at him coyly "Well if you remember your temporal theory class maybe this is a temporal causality loop. A lead to B leads to C leads to A. This is a beginning for us, just not necessarily in the right order. What can I do to make you more comfortable I wonder?" twirling a finger on his chest.

"I'm comfortable," Syvar smiled, "not so much with the temporal theory though. I'm happy the way things are, I just would've preferred to do it in the conventional order. Know what I mean? I mean....we're not married..."

His last statement made Amelia pause. She hadn't really thought about marriage at all. She had been swept up in the romance and the new arrival they were expecting. Her heart fluttered but she kept her expression neutral. "Do you... want to get married...? " She asked him cautiously. She then added "Not the most romantic way to ask..." her lips curling up slightly at the sides.

"Yes," he answered seriously, "I would. Formally bonded, formally married, everything to secure a future for our child." He could feel her pause, could sense a shift in emotion. He raised an ungloved hand -as he had stopped wearing them in her presence- to her face, gently touching her cheek. "Will you marry me?" he asked, equally serious.

She heard the words spoken and despite herself, tears well up in her eyes. "Yes! Of course I will" she replied as she places her hand over his. She took a deep breath. "What a Day...." she muttered... before she kissed him.

"What do you mean, what a day?" He was silenced by the kiss, which seemed a little fiery to him. For a moment, he closed his eyes, savouring the moment. "How have you been feeling? Has the sickness passed yet?"

She took his hand and led him over to the sofa, partially from the fact that her feet were starting to ache. "Not yet." She admitted, patting her stomach. "Still suffering I'm afraid. Only in the morning though. The Captain called me into his ready room and had me squeeze into a rather hideous and revealing leather outfit. I had to convince a Cetea over subspace that I was my mirror counterpart so we could get some information out of and to corroborate her story. Apparently, she is trying to negotiate for better living arrangments other than the brig by drip-feeding us information on how to defeat the Cetea. One of my best friends has turned up on the Merlin, I haven't had time to catch up with her yet and just now..... The man I love proposes to me. Never a dull moment on this ship."

The Vulcan's eyes narrowed. "If it's up to me, that witch stays right where she is. Anywhere else will be a danger to us all," he said coldly, right before his expression mellowed. "You should meet up with her then. Perhaps after dinner? I have a late shift the next few days, including tonight, so I'll have to return to sickbay soon."

She slid up close to him on the sofa, not quite willing to let go of him yet. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, I agree with you. If we take our eyes off her for one moment, she will take advantage of that. The intelligence she provided does seem to be accurate, however." She sighed "I still don't trust her. I don't think she will ever change, but I would like to be proven wrong in this instance. I think I will call Melody, see if she wants to meet up. possibly come over for dinner sometime. Give me a chance to try out my..... sorry. Our new kitchen. Also, it gives me a chance to meet her daughter." She looked up at him and kissed him again." So, how long to I have you for? Do we have time to celebrate?" she asked with a smile that was innocent, yet knowing.

"About an hour," Syvar answered, "we have about an hour, though I do recommend having something to eat first. I'm starving."

She gave his hand a squeeze and stood up. "Well, you just sit right there and I'll fix us something to eat."

"I'd like that," the Vulcan smiled as he settled back on the couch. "What would you like to do about decorations? Do you have anything in mind? And what about Ratty? I can put her cage here somewhere, right?"

"I hadn't thought about decorations, to be honest." She replied as she started preparing a quick and easy meal for them. "It's something we'll have to think about. And there's the baby's room to consider as well. Of course you're bringing Ratty. This is as much your home as mine. We haven't been formally introduced yet anyway." She returned from the kitchen are with a simple pasta.

"Well that can be remedied," Syvar smiled, swiftly getting up from the couch and removing with a tiny black and white patched rat. "I found her in sickbay, she was one of a nest. I made sure the others got a safe home too of course, and made sure they can't nest in sickbay anymore." He offered up the tiny creature, which held up its nose and sniffed the air. "This is Ratty."

"Why Hello there." She said to the curious rodent. "He's a friendly little fellow, isn't he? I was thinking about getting a pet for a while now. What does this guy like to eat?"

"She," Syvar chuckled as he let the tiny rat crawl over onto Amelia's arm, "and she seems to have a preference for nuts, and mango."

Amelia stroked the fur on the rats back. “I’m sorry. Let’s get you something to nibble on.” She went over to the replicator and came back with a bowl of assorted nuts and a few pieces of mango which she set on the table for Ratty. Amelia finished her own meal then snuggled back up to Syvar. As it came time for him to report for duty, she was reluctant to let him go. “Well I hope you have a quiet shift. What time will you be finished?”

"In the morning I'm afraid. You'll probably have gone up to the bridge by then." He nuzzled her hair, tightening his arms around her briefly. "I have to go love, I'm sorry. You'll be alright, right?"

She nodded "Yeah. I'll give Melody a call, see if we can meet up. Got some catching up to do." she thought for a moment. "Hmmmm, we'll have to see we can sort you out some better shifts. I believe the first officer is in charge of the duty roster. I'll have to have some strong words with her." she grinned as she kissed him goodbye. "I'll leave you something nice for your breakfast. Do you want me to talk to the Captain about performing our marriage or will you?"

Syvar smirked at her. "I don't mind night shift," he told her, "and we could go see the captain together, tomorrow?" He gave her a final kiss. "We'll talk about it in the morning, I really need to go."

She reluctantly let go of him and gazed into his eyes for a moment. "Have a good shift and I love you."

"I love you too," he replied, giving her a final kiss before leaving.
