Relief

Mission: Mission 4 - Race against the machine
Location: Sick Bay
Timeline: MD2, 1530
2487 words - 5 OF Standard Post Measure

C'Tora walked down the hallway towards Sickbay and paused in front of the door and straightening his uniform and bringing himself to his full height. His seven foot tall frame filled the door as it slides open in front of him. A Caitian male ( Appears to be a midnight black humaniod jaguar ) in a starfleet medical uniform with Lieutenant's markings. "Computer,Please note that I Lt. C'Tora hereby assume command of the Sickbay at this time and date." He then looks around the medical bay at the persons in the room. " Will whoever is in charge currently please come forward and brief me?"

Syvar just walked out of the CMO's office, presumably with his attention elsewhere as he didn't instantly notice the tall feline standing there. Then as he spotted something large and black from the corner of his eyes, he stopped dead in his tracks and whirled around with wide eyes. "Eh?" he managed, even if he did seem to take note of the teal uniform. "Do you need help sir?" he asked, not sure if the teal meant science or medical.

C'Tora: " I am Lt.C'Tora Kuroka." Extended His hand in a friendly greeting. " I am assuming the duties as CMO. Are you currently in charge here? if so,I will need a briefing to the status of sickbay personal and supplies. I look forward to working with all the personnel and getting to know you all better." He stated with a slight smile. "Do we have any current cases pending for treatment?" He asked as his gaze swept over the sickbay.

A cat.... Syvar held his breath. Of all the new bosses it had to be a cat? Strangely enough, he didn't feel the urge to sneeze like he had with True's cat. "Ah.. yes sir," he answered, offering a gloved hand in return. "Ensign Syvar sir and I'm mighty glad you're here to take over. There's a pregnant prisoner in the brig, and the first officer is pregnant as well. Other than that I'm not sure there are any current patients sir."

C'Tora cocked his head quizzically. "So the Executive Officer and a prisoner are pregnant?" his tail swished back and forth slowly and his ears perked up. "That's a bit unusual. I believe the humans have a saying that there is something in the water when a lot of pregnancies happen, perhaps we need to run a scan on the water supply to make sure this doesn't get out of hand." he joked. "But i will say bringing a life into this universe is a dang sight better then not being able to save a life, and far better then treating the wounds of a needless war." He stated with a solemn gaze at Syvar and sighed. "Care for a cup of tea?" He asked as he walked towards the replicator. "Since we're going to be working together, perhaps we can talk and get to know each other better unless that is something that would make you feel uncomfortable of course." He paused for a moment. "It's just i like knowing the people i work with and making friends with them."

Syvar nodded. "I don't mind a cup of tea sir and I agree with you here." He flushed ever so slightly. "Lieutenant Fox, the XO, she's bearing my child," he confessed, "she's my mate." He paused a fraction of a second, seeming a little ill at ease for a moment. "I ah.... you'll have to excuse me if I start to sneeze, I'm highly allergic to ah...domesticated cats." Yet so far, since meeting the feline doctor, he'd not had any symptoms.

C'Tora gave a slight chuckle of delight. " Well then,Congratulations are in order Syvar, is this your first child together? We shall do everything we can to make sure your child grows up happy and healthy! As much as any Doctor can,the rest is up to you and your mate." C'Tora oen up his personal case and pulled out two wrapped beef sticks and offered one to Syvar. " These go so well with rigilian tea. Great for dipping in the tea,the rich beef flavor blends quite well with the earthiness of the tea and has a wonderful flavor together." He dipped the beef into the tea and took a bite and chewed for a few moments before swallowing. " As for your allergies,Caitians do not have the same type of dander as a domesticated feline. If it does become a problem,I can simply give myself a once a month hypo spray to suppress the dander. I can't simply have you sneezing all over sickbay. It just wouldn't do." He stated with an amused look.

"Ah...I don't generally eat meat sir," the young Vulcan declined, though he did accept his tea. "And if I don't have symptoms I see no reason for you to inject yourself with chemicals to reduce them. As long as your dander isn't an issue in sterile environments that is..."

C'Tora raised his hand and tapped himself on his head. " Ahh....Forgive me. I tend to forget that vulcans normally don't indulge in the consumption of meat. On Cait we tend to consume a fair amount." His whiskers twitched slightly. "A male my size can eat between five and ten kilos of meat per day. I am fortunate that federation replicators can make a good passable meat." He paused for a moment before he spoke again. " But nothing is as good as the real deal." He almost purred. " Fresh meat still warm and steaming....." He stopped mid sentence. " Once again I ask for you to forgive me. In my culture this is acceptable and normal, If my dietary ramblings have offended you then I apologize and hope you will over look them."

"Oh no, I'm not that easily offended, and I do occasionally eat meat but too much makes me feel really sick. And the idea of raw meat doesn't sound very appetizing to me I'm afraid. But please don't hold back on culture... it's important to some." Syvar nodded in acknowledgement. "Not so much to me, I don't adhere to logic and I don't adhere to control either."

" Thank you Syvar. I am more then willing to share facts of my culture with you, the more we learn of each other the better we can work together." C'Tora's whiskers twitched for a moment." I tend to forget that others don't eat their meat raw like the Caitians do. Some even find our table manners less then desirable. Sometimes they don't like the fact that we don't wear shoes either." "To Uncomfortable." He muttered under his breath. He tilted his head slightly sideways as he looked at Syvar."You are the first Vulcan I have met that has stated that you do not adhere to logic or control." He paused briefly. " That is your personal belief and I shall respect that. My only concern is that the medical team works well together and effectively to serve the health needs of this ship and crew." C'Tora sighed. "Now comes the one duty that no incoming CMO can escape.....Inventory."

"Oh inventory is up to date sir," Syvar smiled, handing over a single PADD. "And uh.. no shoes...isn't that a little unsanitary?" He frowned, pulling his slanted brows into an almost solid 'V'. "I mean... what if something's spilled? Wouldn't it be dangerous too?"

A curious look passed over C'Tora's with a brief touch of surprise."Umm...Star fleet footwear doesn't quite fit our feline feet with the shape of our legs." He bent down and tapped the bottom of his pants which gave a slight metallic click. "In the lining of each pant leg is a metal band that contains a micro stasis field generator that can hold a two day charge before needing a recharge. It provides about the same level of protection as your shoes and is quite sanitary,Star fleet has made some minor allowances for species with non human extremities."

"That's a relief," the young Vulcan answered, though he didn't seem too convinced. "Do you have a family with you? There's several families on board, and as I've indicated my mate is pregnant, though she's not too far in yet. And the science chief's wife is pregnant, about six months or so by my last check."

C'tora's tail went stiff for a brief moment before it relaxed and started it's gentle swaying back and forth once again. " Do I have any family with me?" he repeated back softly. "No I'm afraid I don't.Much to my mother's chagrin." He fiddled with his com badge for a moment before he looked back up once again at Syvar. " Most Caitian males are normally mated for life by the time they are eighteen." His Statement ending in a sigh. "She seems to think I should be mated and provided her with two or three Brre'l by now." He paused briefly. " Sorry.. A Brre'l is the Caitian term for a litter, anywhere from one to four per Brre'l with two or three being average." C'Tora snorted softly. " Trust me, every time I a subspace communication from my mother there is always a I have a friend who has a daughter who would love to meet you in there somewhere. Or a if your home by this certain time she should be in season." He stroked his chin thoughtfully for a brief time. " Human and Vulcan parents don't do that to their offspring do they?"

"Vulcan parents do, actually," Syvar chuckled, "at least... the traditional ones. Often vulcan children are bonded at the age of seven, to find each other when they enter their first Pon Farr." He tilted his head ever so slightly. "And so what if you do not have a mate to have a litter with? What happens if you do not wish for a female mate?" He shook his head. "My mother is Human, I have not told her yet that she's going to be a grandmother. I think she'll be thrilled though."

C'Tora nodded to Syvar's statement. " Good to see that I'm not the only one in the galaxy with pushy parents." he gave a light laugh. " I know the desire to procreate is strong in just about all species, but somehow my mother makes me feel that I am the only caitian out there not doing thier part for the species." His tail stopped and curled a bit. " It's not like I'm avoiding finding a mate. It's just I haven't met to many female caitians on the ships I have served on. That and being busy with my duties and studies takes up a good amount of time." C'Tora shrugged. " If it happens it happens. Until then, I have duties to preform, studies to do, Patients to take care of and friends to make." He stated with a grin.

"It's your call to make sir, at least in my opinion. I don't know anything about Caitian society sir, I wouldn't know if your mother can make any demands where mates are concerned. I've heard that Betazoid women have quite a bit of hold on their sons, or even brothers. Is that the same with Caitians too?"

" Well, Caitian mothers don't have quite that much hold over their sons. But they do have a strong urge to play matchmaker for they're offspring,Sons and daughters alike." C'Tora shook his head slowly. " It would be just like her to show up conveniently at a starbase where we have docked and just happen to have a friend or two daughter in tow and were somehow in the neighborhood and happened to be there." C'Tora remained silent for a moment. " I really do love, respect and appreciate my parents for all that they have done for me,and I know that in my mothers mind she is doing the right thing to insure a strong and viable family. But sometimes her tactics are intense and distracting. I have tried to talk to her about it but she won't be happy until I'm mated." C'Tora chuckled softly. " The universe will provide and I must carry on and do my best,So when that happens she will be happy and I will have some peace."

"Perhaps then, you should appreciate her efforts, and try to keep her happy?" Syvar suggested carefully, "if that is the only way to leave you alone?"

"Syvar, I do appreciate her efforts, and caitians are a very social culture. But of all the females she has brought before me not a single one of them has had ....the right scent." he mused for a brief moment. " I guess for a human it would be like comparing it to love at first sight." C'Tora shrugged. " I just want it to be the right person for me and not feel forced into the relationship." He lowered his head almost looking at the floor. " I guess I'm either a romantic or a fool. Only time will tell."

"Or both," Syvar chuckled. "Have you met with the command staff yet at all? You will see why I am pretty proud of my mate. She is everything to me, I would do anything for her. Anything."

C'Tora laughed. " I have indeed met the executive officer, she met me in the transporter room when I came aboard and showed me to my quarters. She informed me of her pregnancy and I set up a routine schedule every two weeks for a exam to ensure that you both have a healthy child. The exam will be brief and take about a minute, and I shall be pleased to help you bring another precious life into the universe." C'Tora chuckled. " So I wonder if he or she will follow you into the medical profession? Or perhaps take the path into command?Maybe he or she will just make their own way and follow where their heart leads, it will be interesting to find out won't it" he laughed. " I came down here to stow my gear and then I was going to go meet with the captain. Perhaps you can introduce me to him?"

"Ah... no sir I'd rather not," Syvar muttered, "First impressions are important, I'd better not stand in your way."

C'Tora nodded. " Very well then, I should go and introduce myself to the captain then" He turned and headed towards the door and then briefly stopped for a moment. " I'll be back shortly,Keep an eye on things while I'm gone." He said with a smile." I think we're going to get along famously and that it will be a pleasure working with you." With that said he head towards the turbolift to go meet with his new captain.
