ON:

True yawned and set down her tea cup on the coffee table. She'd been going over some older counseling reports, clearing them of the PADD so that newer things could be added there. Yes, it was her birthday, but that didn't mean that she could just shrug her responsibilities. At least she wasn't in her office, she'd taken up residence in the most comfy chair in her quarters and had a throw wrapped around her for comfort.

The chime just kept on being jammed. ….."

True called "Come in."

"You have to come now. Its dad … He's not himself …. theres an alien creature in the quarters. But I can't see anything. I think its …. you know …." the young blond pointed at his head. "Up here. I didn't know what to do. I just came to you."

Eddie bursting into the room wasn't what she expected. "Eddie, slow down." True said, taking his hand and walking with him toward Jon's quarters. "Jon think's there's an alien in his quarters?" There was of course the possibility that Jon was right. She had never known him to have any kind of mental problem.

"Yeah said it has claws and fur .. and …. come help True …." he practically dragged her the last few feet the door opened and Jons quarters were completely dark.

"What the . . . " True said as she entered and could not see anything. "Computer, lights to full."

"SURPRISE ………."

The lights flew on and she could suddenly make out Jon holding something squirming in his arms and Tia stood beside him. Eddie flew behind her. The present had escaped a couple of times already. Now was not the time for another attempt.

"Happy birthday ….."

She stood there absolutely stunned for a moment. She blinked a few times, clearly shaken by the events and the yell or surprise. "What . . what's all this?" She finally asked, looking around at everyone.

"Well," Jon said still trying to hold on to the squirming kitten, "Since we got together I got the computer to tell me some important things so I didn't make a pigs ear of things …. like your birthday."

"Actually I suggested that to dad," Eddie piped in. Jon gave him an amusing look and then looked towards Tia. He knew whose benefit that was for.

"And you said you wanted a pet … fluffy you liked yes?" by the goddesses he hoped he had got this right Jon thought.

"He's for me?" True was actually stunned and so few things made her speechless. She wasn't what she considered a chatty person but she could usually hold her own in a conversation. She felt completely at a loss. A lump had formed in her throat.

"I got Hawkins on a mission to find a Pet as a gift for me to give you … well here …." he handed the kitten over to her. It seemed to instantly calm in Trues arms. Jon couldn't blame it.

"Happy birthday love …."

When he placed the kitten in her arms it was like a door opened and her emotions started leaking out of her. She had to wipe her eyes with her available sleeve on her forearm that wasn't holding the kitten. She was just so surprised and flattered that they, that Jon had gone to all this trouble.

"Oh … and we decided to throw you a tea party," Eddie added indicating the table. "An English one ….. my grand nanas scones and jam, finger sandwiches, yummy cakes …. and your favourite tea."

"Hah," True said, still sniffling a bit. "It's absolutely perfect, all of it. Thank you so much. I suppose it would be all right to set him down as long as the door is closed." He wasn't going to want to sit in her lap for a whole tea party.

Tia immediately started the petting the kitten as soon as he was placed on the floor. He didn't seem to mind although after a minute of this he darted off to find trouble to get into.

Jon gently pulled her towards him and placed a loving kiss on her lips. Then pulled out a chair. "Right here m'lady," he winked at her.

"Thanks," True said quietly feeling silly now that she had produced tears over a birthday party and a kitten.

"What you going to call him True?" Eddie asked sitting down and immediately reaching for a huge scone.

Jon looked at his son and indicated Tia with his eyes.

Eddie flushed. "Ermm … here Tia have a chair." he stood up awkwardly.

Tia glanced up from where she'd been standing, watching the kitten. "Thanks," she said shyly and sat down.

"Umm," True said watching as the kitten ran around, seemingly chasing an imaginary friend. "I'm not certain. I usually like to spend a bit of time with an animal before I name it. He's certainly an energetic one. Bit of a trouble maker I'd say. I just have a feeling."

"Here," Jon said handing her a napkin. He didn't have anything else. "Sorry we didn't mean to make you cry. And I think your right. He's got so much energy. Hopefully your calming nature will rub off on him. I just hope … well him and Sherlock get on," Jon shrugged pouring some tea.

"Oh I think they'll be fine. Hopefully they don't join forces, I think you should be more worried about that." True said with a smile on her face. She accepted the napkin and dried her eyes. Looking at Jon though she felt something she didn't think she'd ever felt before, pure love. After the Imzadi thing and some time to think about it she realized that no other man had ever treated her so well for so long. He calmed her insecurities, not an easy thing to do sometimes.

"Tia would you like a scone?" he asked then projected this time in eddies head ~offer the lady a scone~

The blond grabbed the plate and moved it towards her.

"What's a scone?" Tia asked, feeling completely embarrassed about this whole situation. She'd never been to a tea party before.

"It is an old English pastry traditionally served with Afternoon tea," Jon replied.

"You eat them with clotted cream," Eddie pitched in picking up a dish with a spoon in and offering it to her, "And lashings of jam. They are delicious. You must try one. My great grandma makes the best scones."

Tia took one. They smelled good. She decided there was nothing that would hurt her if she tried one. "Must be nice to have all that family to see. I never met my grandparents. I just have mom and dad." She replied as she tried a bite after taking one from Eddie.

"It can be," True replied as the kitten zoomed under the table. "But there's also such a thing as being around them too much." She continued, thinking of her brothers.

"I can concur," Jon said quietly thinking of his extended now, family and his mother back on Betazed. "So Tia, how are you settling into the ship?" he asked.
