ON:

Fox lay looking at the ceiling on the bunk. Her hands behind her head. She was already bored. The lone security officer on duty had refused to talk to her, even when he brought her breakfast. Even though she looked like the first officer, the entire crew was now treating her like a plague carrier or worse. She could still see the looks on the faces of the crew she had passed as she was escorted in here in her mind's eye. Some of them ignored her entirely, others had just looked at her with contempt. Maybe she had already ruined the confidence the crew had in their first officer. Maybe now she would be easier to turn to her cause.

She had failed to take over the ship, but the trip had not been a total loss. Now, she had to figure out how she could get out of here. Also, how she could take care of the Cetea. They had been useful... to a point. Now, they were a complication.

She stood suddenly and started to pace. The reason she was still alive was two-fold. One, the Federation was full of pacifists and two, she had information that they wanted. Now, how to turn this situation to her advantage the pondered.

Long after security had interrogated her, Aidan had gone down to the brig. The Trill science chief stood watching her from the shadows for a while, before stepping into the light. "Where is our Amelia," he asked her outright. "What have you done with her."

She stopped pacing and the corners of her mouth went up ever so slightly. She didn't turn to face him as she spoke. "So... Curiosity got the better of you eh? Or was it something deeper? Perhaps you sense a bond between us?"

She finally turned and looked at Aidan and folded her arms. "Tell me, did I kill that little pet of yours? I must admit, seeing his passion and aggression was a welcome change of pace in this... dreary little universe of yours."

Not one for anger outbursts or even generally raising his voice, Aidan gritted his teeth and his eyes showed the anger he refused to voice. "He'll be fine," he answered, even his voice betraying his reigned in anger. "And there's no bond whatsoever between us, we aren't friends. I only want to know where our Amelia is, so we can go get her and bring her safely back to the ship."

Her smile grew as she knew she had got under his skin. "Come now, we have to be honest with one another. You have a real problem. You're in love with your commanding officer. It's consuming you. Why else are would you be so concerned with warping off to find her so you can hold her close to you once more? Mind you, who can blame you. She is marvelous, isn't she? And I'm the best parts of her.... The fire... the passion but, far more accessible... mind you... I suppose you want us both, don't you? You naughty boy! What would your wife think if she knew about you and me and me?

The Trill's eyes narrowed. "There is no you and me, I'm devoted to my wife. What makes you think I have any feelings for you, either version of you."

Her wicked smiled faltered slightly as her eyes lost focus for a moment and she seemed to sway slightly.

Anger made way for concern and he stepped closer to the forcefield. "Are you alright?"

She recovered "I'm fine in fact I've never felt bett.. urp..." Her hand flew to her mouth and she quickly moved over to the small sink in the corner of the room where she threw up violently.

Aidan frowned, took a slight step back and touched his commbadge. "Datari to sickbay, Syvar please report to the brig, we have a medical situation."

"On my way," came the immediate response.

Far from being concerned, she seemed even more pleased at the turn of events. She ran some water and swilled her mouth out before she took a deep breath and turned back to him, her expression had altered to something that people who knew her rarely saw... honesty.

"Don't worry. I was told by the Terran doctor who showed me the technique that there might be some side effects right after use but it just meant that it was working. While you were unconscious, I took a sample of your DNA. With a little help and some medical knowledge from my universe, I impregnated myself with it."

She placed her hands on her stomach and closed her eyes as she imagined it swollen with new life. "You're going to be a father."

"I don't believe you," Aidan replied just as the Vulcan acting CMO walked in. He watched as the young man froze as he saw who the occupant of the cell was. "Miss Fox appears to be I'll," Aidan told him, giving her no room to argue.

Syvar nodded briefly and waited for the guard to let him inside the cell. "Please give us some privacy, I'll call when I'm done." He waited for Aidan and the guard to step back, then turned to Amelia. "What ails you," he asked directly, "you don't look sick."

Frighteningly, Fox was being remarkably pleasant. She sat on the edge of the bed. Though she spoke to Syvar, her eyes were fixed on Aidan. She was breathing slowly and deeply. The Terran Doctor hadn’t told her all the side effect of the DNA implantation technique she had used and, right now, it was lighting a fire deep within her. “Hello there Doctor. I suppose I’m suffering from the fact that lying comes so naturally to me that nobody believes me when I do tell the truth. Or could it be someone who denies the obvious, even when the evidence is plain to see?”

She finally looked at Syvar. “I’m pregnant Doctor with the child of your science officer over there. A Doctor from my universe showed me the technique and told me of the side effects which included nausea. I used a sample of his DNA. I left the hypospray and equipment I used I’m my quarters. Surely you saw it when you woke up?

As the Trill was out of earshot, the jibe about the hypospray went unheard. Syvar however frowned as he scanned her, a brief hint of hurt flitting across his features. "I can detect a change," he reported, "but I can't tell for certain if you are indeed pregnant. I'll have to do a more thorough scan and that'll have to happen in sickbay." He gazed directly at her as he closed the tricorder. "And that won't happen," he added carefully, "they're not going to let you come to sickbay."

Even though it wasn’t needed, she leaned closer to him and lowered her voice. She wanted him. Now! And it was taking a great deal of restraint to keep from leaping at him and tearing his clothes off. Her hands were clenched into fists so tight her knuckles were turning white. When she got back to her universe she was going to have to find that doctor and kill him slowly and painfully

“That depends on how sick I am and also if you want to be rolling on the floor screaming in the next sixty seconds. I’m sure you can give me something so that it appears that I need to be taken to sickbay under your care. So, I suggest you get creative. Quickly!”

Her proximity as well as her threat made him shiver. "I can," he told her as he covertly injected her with something. It wasn't going to knock her out but it would cause her considerable discomfort for the next couple of minutes.

Suddenly it felt like her stomach was on fire! She groaned loudly and grabbed his arm, hard. Through gritted teeth, she swore at him "You better be able to fix this!" she snarled before letting out another loud moan and curling almost into a fetal position.

"Medical emergency!" Syvar called out, thereby adding his security clearance, "override controls, two to beam directly to sickbay." The pair transported directly to a private ward which was instantly sealed on his order. She was, after all, a detainee. He watched her for a moment, before giving her a contra-agent to what he'd given her. As he did he stepped back to give her some room to recover.

Her discomfort quickly subsided and she got up and looked at him with feral eyes. She was breathing hard and her face was flushed. "You're going to pay for that!" She walked towards him like a lioness stalking her prey. She backed him up against the wall. Her eyes were locked on his as her breathing slowed. "You're lucky I want you alive right now."

Syvar backpedaled until his back encountered the wall, blocking his path. "I had to," he protested feebly, "what if they'd come to check?"

She suddenly pinned him to the wall and started kissing him while she clawed wildly at his uniform.

Carefully, he started to push her back. "You're not well," he countered, "you need to wait until the counter agent works or you'll get really sick. Please...wait a moment." He pushed her clawing hands away, trying to readjust his uniform. "And I need to run these scans...or they'll suspect..."

She managed to regain some semblance of control and stopped, though she was still looking at him with wild eyes. One word escaped her lips. "Hurry.."

"Get on the bed so I can run the scan," the young doctor ordered, turning to get his tricorder. The bed's scanning system was far more advanced that his tricorder. He watched as she got on, then proceeded to run his scans. "I do see changes to the uterine wall," he reported, "the beginnings of an embryo seems nestling in, but it's too soon to tell anything more. You'll need to make sure your vitamin levels remain up to par, and you'll need to stay fit and healthy."

As she sat on the bed her hands began unzipping her uniform as he was speaking. Fox smiled at the news. "Good that's exactly what I wanted to here. Now that's over and done, I suggest you get over here now unless you want to be the one screaming although it will be for a different reason."

Knowing what she meant, and having no desire to have it inflicted on him again, Syvar did as he was told.

30 Minutes later

The room looked like a bomb had gone off. The diagnostic bed was tipped over and the blanket had been pulled off and was now over them as they lay on the floor. Fox lay next to Syvar. She didn't speak, a curious look on her face. This didn't happen to her. She didn't develop feelings for anyone else, especially a Vulcan... and yet as she lay next o him, catching her breath. It had been different this time, she was different. She tried to push those thoughts from her head. Stick to the plan!

Perspiration casting an odd sheen over his exposed olive skin, Syvar lay staring at the ceiling. He'd done his best to please her, but he found little enjoyment in these encounters. His face was a mask of anxiety as he waited for her next orders.

She ran a hand over Syvar and stopped at the incision she had made which was marked with a faint scar. "I still have a use for you so you can relax... for now. I see you haven't tampered with your agoniser. I wouldn't touch it if I were you. These things have a way of exploding if you tamper with them. So, if you don't want to be picked up from the deck in several pieces don't touch it."

Then uncharacteristically, she started to run her hands over him. "You're making my time here a lot more pleasant." She added sounding almost fond of him.

He shivered at her touch, which could be misinterpreted for a sign of pleasure. "I'm glad you think so," he added quietly as he sat up. He studied her, noticing a slight difference in the way she touched him. "I'm going to transport you back to the brig once you get dressed. I have to, if we don't want security to come barging in. I'll come by to check on you later. If you need any, you need to let me know now." He paused. "I haven't betrayed you," he added as he started to get dressed, "I did my best to keep them off your trail."

She regarded his face for a moment and simply answered “I believe you.” Then when she had dressed she dusted herself down and said “A book would be nice, I’m going out of my mind with boredom.”

"What kind of book?" Syvar asked as he re-adjusted his uniform jacket.

She thought for a moment “I saw a copy of the art of war in my quarters. Sounds like fun.”

The young man's eyes widened a fraction. "A real book?" He seemed awed as he was more or less used to reading from a PADD rather than having a real bound book. "I'll bring it to you after my shift." With a simple order, after waiting for her to get dressed too, he had her transported back to her cell.

The brig

Fox materialised back in the brig to find Aidan still loitering there. She raised an eyebrow. “You’re still here? And you claim to feel nothing for me.” She batted her eyelids at him.

"There is only one woman that I've ever had feelings for," Aidan replied neutrally, "and that woman is most definitely not you, either of you. But I do want to know where our Amelia is, and you're going to tell me." His eyes narrowed as he studied her, noticing the flush to her cheeks. "Seems you had quite a visit to sickbay then," he said sarcastically, before turning away. "Fine, don't tell me then. I'll find her on my own, I am the science chief after all. I'm sure my fancy equipment can locate her."

She called out “Wait!” When she was certain she had his attention she continued “I’ll provide you with safe coordinates to beam down. The patrol route of the guards and enough information to make sure you make it back to the ship with your precious first officer.”

Aidan turned back. "So, what has you have this change of heart?" he all but sneered.

“I don’t want to see me hurt... and a child shouldn’t grow up not knowing her father.” she placed her hands back on her stomach. She added, almost as an afterthought “Oh, The good doctor recommends some vitamin supplements and that I stay healthy. It’s necessary for a woman in my condition.”

Unacknowledging her jab about fatherhood, he nodded. "I'm sure the doctor can provide whatever you need. I want nothing further to do with you as soon as we retrieve our XO."

She looked at him coolly. Then deliberately turned and sat on the bed. She spoke clearly and calmly “I think you’ll change your mind and you better change your tone with me. Without my help, you’ll be killed the instant you materialise. Now, I’m not shouting anymore, I’m really rather tired so, if you want me to talk then you better come in here and listen.”

"I'm not going to step into the cell with you," the Trill replied as he turned and stepped up to the forcefield. "and if you want to threaten me you'll have to do better than that. "Where is Amelia. I'm going to find her, with or without your help." He never raised his voice as he spoke, though his annoyance was audible. "Tell me, and I might allow you for some leisures, such as books, or perhaps even non-confidential reports."

She sighed. “You really are distrustful. I’m exhausted and I’m in no mood for games. Lieutenant Fox is in holding cell about 3km north from your original beam down coordinates. I’d beam down into one of the adjacent cells to avoid the sensors and the guards in the corridors. Then you can cut through with your phasers as her cell will be shielded with a magnetic field to prevent beaming. Also, you better be quick as I’m afraid the Cetea who are holding her agreed only to keep her alive 72 hrs from when she was captured. I believe that only gives you a few hours before she won’t be in one place but several. There. I told you what you wanted! Now leave me alone and I just hope your child can show more compassion than its father.” Her voice caught in her throat in a masterful performance.

She lay down on the bed and faced away from him.

Aidan shrugged, again refusing to take the bait. As far as he was concerned the only child he had would be the one his wife was pregnant with, and no other. "Thank you," he said simply, "I always keep my promises so I'll see to it that you're given some comforts."

Fox did not hear him however, She had fallen asleep.
