Arrival at the colony

Jon always got a little excited when he felt the ship drop out of warp and get to a new destination. The stars started to slow and the planet, a little beiger than he was used to seeing for a planet appeared. There was obviously less water to say Betazed or Earth he mused.

Today was Xu's first time sat at Ops with the rest of the bridge crowded with the other senior officers. She had been here during quieter shifts, had started to look things over but today she was officially doing what her new role entailed. No one had asked her for any specifics yet so she just kept the sensors pointed at the planet taking as many readings as she could. So far it seemed a fairly ordinary world with nothing of import to report on.

Amelia was sat in her seat. While her 'bump' was just starting to show, her uniform was still fitting her, though it was getting rather sung. A new one would be needed shortly. The planet on the viewscreen looked unremarkable but it had quite a strategic importance. "Helm standard orbit. Are there any signs of trouble?"

Adam Morgan looked over his new station on the Galaxy class bridge and was still in awe how much bigger it was in comparison to his old ship he had served. Morgan watched as the planet of Meladoste known as Epsilon Sigma 4 came to fill most the viewscreen as he was ordered to place the ship in orbit. He punched in the proper commands into the ship's console before him and spoke,

"Yes ma'am, standard orbit."

As Adam placed the final set of commands for the orbit, he decreased the impulse speed to half as he placed the Andromeda into orbit of the M-Class world. Morgan felt the ship slow beneath him and he layed his next commands into the thrusters to take control as he settled the ship into orbit over the location of the colony.

Michael was on post at the engineering station on the bridge. He looked towards the view screen when the planet came to view. Less water than Betazed or Earth, from what the scans were showing. He wondered if there was water running beneath the surface of the planet, taking some reading to see if that was the case. He wondered what sort of plants were there, what sort of animals as well. He could feel his heart pumping rapidly as they drew closer.

Having sensors set on full, Aidan was a little absorbed in his work. At first, he barely noticed they had taken up orbit over the colony. He squinted once as he looked up and took note of the planet on the screen. "Readings are coming in sir," he reported, "I am reading a wide variety of life signs, both humanoid and other fauna sir. It seems to be clustered."

Amelia leaned closer to Jon and said in a low voice. "I don't like it. Everything seems normal. Normal life signs, no sign of interference. Why the hell did they break off communications?"

"I don't know. Let's see if we can actually establish communications," Jon said.

"Meladoste colony, this is Captain Jonathan Reynolds of the Federation starship Andromeda. We have supplies for you to deliver. Are you okay down there? No ones heard from you in a while."

There was few strange noises and then a female voice came over the comm. "Andromeda .... like a big starship ...."

"Wheres that voice coming from?" a males voice followed. "Where are you? Have you brought us Jumja? Nothings working down here and we are starving?"

Jon cocked an eyebrow in Amelia and Trues direction.

"Who am I speaking to?" he asked. "I'm sure we can help get things working again."

"N'Kora .... shes the leader. And it's her fault we run out of sweets ....."

Jon looked even more confused. "Just give me a moment N'Kora. I'm going to do a quick sweet tally for you. Back in a moment." He raised his hand to Gwen to mute the channel.

He looked out towards the bridge, "Well somethings not right. It sounds like kids down there playing adult or messing around with the equipment. We will go down and sort them out."

"Hawkins, Counselor, Leighton and Datari with me. Morgan you too. Time to break out the new runabout," Jon said. "Tactical have Dr C'Tora meet us in the shuttlebay as well."

"Number one you have the bridge. I will let you know when I want the second away team party to come down," Jon stated.

Amelia was still processing what she had heard over the comm channel. She frowned "Aye Captain but, be careful." She added, "This raises more questions than it answers. I'll be standing by with the next landing party."

Upon receiving the comm message C'Tora grabbed the largest medical field pack he could get and head out to the shuttle bay. He tapped his commbadge. " Message received, will meet you in the shuttle bay in two minutes. C'tora out."

Jon lead them to the turbolift door and looked back. "Lieutenant Lau, don't get too comfortable I'm going to want you, and our new diplomatic officer down as soon as we have the lay of the land ready to join us. Belikov your going to be in charge then when Lieutenant Fox joins us."

"Aye sir!" until then Xu could continue using the time to go over her primary duties and the realms that could take her. It had been several days and she had finally started to feel as if she was settling into the position, she just hoped she was doing the Captain proud.

Rose nodded, “understood sir, I’ll keep her in one piece”

Amelia moved over into the Captain's chair and signalled to the ensign who had replaced Leighton at tactical to reopen the channel "Meladoste colony, this is the Andromeda. The first landing party will be with you shortly."

A voice replied, "Are you my mummy?"

"Erm... no," Amelia replied, casting a worried glance around to the other bridge officers. Then added "Don't worry someone will come and look after you soon." thinking it would be best to keep whoever this was calm.

"Ahhhh, ok. You sound nice. Bye Bye." The childish voice replied.

"Andromeda out." As the channel was closed, she asked no one in particular "Anyone have the faintest idea what that was all about?"

All Xu could do was shrug, a perplexed look matched only by that of the other bridge officers.

Morgan walked with the other officers to the shuttlebay thinking on what could of happened on the colony. He kept the brisk pace as the officers rounded the corridor towards the main shuttlebay doors. Morgan was in a way excited to be piloting a Runabout and he was hoping not to scratch her up on her first outing. He heard the conversation between Hawkins and the captain.

"That was definitely strange, why would a child be answering our hail? Has something happened to the adults there, leaving just the children?" Michael queried looking rather concerned at that very thought.

"Let's go iron that one out," Jon said trying not to be impatient but in reality he secretly did want to get going in this new runabout. And of course, figure out what was happening to these good people.

"Just remember you're not indestructible Captain." Amelia called over her shoulder.

"Nobody is number one," Jon quipped stepping into the turbolift.
