Mission: Through the looking glass
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD3 late evening
2093 words - 4.2 OF Standard Post Measure

ON:

Amelia was still unconscious after collapsing in the conference lounge and had been brought down to sickbay.

Amelia arrived at the doors of Sickbay with 2 other security officers at her side. They were two of her best and would remain by both Syvar's and Amelia's side for the time being. She had also sent an additional 3 to their children for extra protection. She knew the importance people placed on their offspring and she knew they'd want them more protected than themselves. She saw Commander Fox and her heart skipped a little. Fox's reaction had been completely understandable, and her mind cast to how she would feel if it were her family. A pit in her stomach formed, a knot of gnawing but thankfully her family was not in any crosshairs.

Syvar held Amelia's hand with one of his own and gently brushed her hair with the other as he frantically begged for her to wake up. He was utterly scared and at wit's end. "Don't leave me," he whispered urgently, "please, come back to us. I need you... The girls need you...."

Kovan heard the Sickbay doors swoosh open and turned to look out of habit as the antigrav gurney was brought in. He reached for his belt and pulled the tricorder off and began a scan as the patient was being transferred to a biobed. " No signs of outward trauma or subdermal hematoma. " The andorian frowned as the readings were inconclusive, but showed a abnormal brain activity. " I need 20ML Cordrazine and a neural stimulator! And I need them now! " The hypo hissed and the neural stimulator placed on the forehead and activated. " Her neural patterns have returned to near normal, so there is presently no danger to her at this time. What happened to get her into this state in the first place? " He asked Doctor Talios.

Amelia's eyes flicked open and then started looking around the room. Her breathing rate increased dramatically. "Where am I?"

"You're in sickbay honey," Syvar whispered, relief on his face as she woke up, "you passed out. How do you feel?"

Amelia looked at him, puzzled. “Sickbay? Where? Who are you? Do you know where my mom and dad are?"

Flustered, Syvar stared at her the up at the attending doctor. "Your parents are on Earth I imagine...and I'm your mate.... please Amy, don't play games, we need you,the girls and I. This ship needs you."

Amelia’s look of confusion deepened. “Of course my mom and dad are on Earth, we’re on Earth. Where are they? I’m sorry mister, I don’t know you and I think you’re a bit old to be my friend. What girls? You mean Jacky and Lucy? I already let them copy my homework.”

Syvar couldn't help but smile as he brushed her cheek with the back of two fingers. "You're older than me love," he smiled, though the concern didn't leave his eyes. "I mean our girls, Aethra and Ahara. Our twin daughters."

Amelia managed a nervous laugh. “Older than you? I’m 8. I don’t have any daughters. Dad won’t even let me have a boyfriend. Look, where is my mom and dad? I want to go home.”

"Oh no..." Syvar shook his head. "It's this strange reversion again... Doctor you'll have to lock out her command access...any access to all systems. I can't it's unethical for me to do so as she's my mate. And we'll have to look up on how we cured her last time, though i don't know how it happened last time. All I know is she kept asking for me then, but the difference is now that she doesn't remember me. She was also, still pregnant last time."

"Pregnant? No way, I'm getting out of here." and quick as a flash, Amelia had rolled off the biobed and was making a break for the door.

Kovan grabbed a hypo and loaded a sedative into it just in case it were needed and hid it behind his back and moved slowly towards Amelia, not wanting to spook her.

The door opened and Amelia skidded to a halt as the figure of the Captain was blocking her escape.

"Woah easy there number one," Jon said. "Where are you going?"

Amelia blinked a couple of times then broke into a massive smile. She threw her arms around Jon. “Dad! There you are. I was so scared I’d lost you. Where are we and who are these people?”

Kovan cleared his throat and looked directly at Captain Reynolds. " Well Dad, it seems your eight-year-old daughter fainted and has suffered from some sort of regression and needs to be evaluated for treatment. Perhaps you could help? Oh. And I'll be disabling her command codes for medical reasons until she's returned to normal. "

Syvar seemed to flitt between confusion and gratitude. "Why does she think the captain is her father? He's far too young for that... isn't he?" He moved to wrap his arms around his mate. "Perhaps I should take her home and keep her there?"

"I'm not entirely sure what's happening here. Doc, catch me up," Jon said concerned. "Then we will make some decisions."

Not sure on which 'doc' he was referring to, Syvar nodded slowly. "She thinks she's eight years old and she doesn't remember any of us. She's got no memory of our marriage or our daughters. Perhaps, taking her home will jog her memory?"

Jon blinked several times. "Is it that virus from the planet again? Was the cure only temporary? Is it like earth chicken pox. I mean I know its eradicated now but before we had that tech it could stay in your DNA and come back another time as something called shingles. I remember my gran telling me stories ..."

"I don't know..." Syvar looked to Kovan for assistance.

Kovan looked to Syvar. " I think it would be best if we ran a battery of test before releasing her to go back to your quarters. We need to know what we're working with and how to devise and effect treatment, afterwards we'll see if a trip your quarters will jog her memory. While we're running the test I think it would be good to have a councilor on hand to help out as well. "

Syvar nodded anxiously as he kept his arms wrapped around the woman he loved, trying to guide her back to the bed. "Come on love, let's get you back to bed," he whispered to her, "for now. After the doctors are done, I'll take you home."

Roger was...hiding out in his office. He was *technically* done for the day, but Lucy was in some kind of mood, so he didn't dare go back to their quarters-on the other hand, he knew if he didn't show up soon, he'd get it worse. So the commotion outside, in the open area of the Sickbay, was just the excuse he'd need! She couldn't yell at him if he were working. It hadn't been his fault that Minnie stayed up too late and was tired at her lessons. He'd lost track of time as they'd played and she'd napped. 9 PM had come before he'd realized! He heard the terms "regression" and "tests," and grabbed his blue lab coat and handheld scanner. He peeked out the door. "Dr. Talios, need a hand?" He offered, shrugging into the jacket, and stepping out. "What seems to be the problem?" He'd go back, if the man didn't need him, but hopefully, he could put off seeing Hurricane Lucy another hour.

Kovan walked over to where Dr. Harrison was coming out of his office. He hadn't been aware that the ACMO was even still in his office, but he was certainly glad to see him. He began briefing the ACMO in a quiet tone, as he didn't want to disturb the patient. " Dr. Harrison Sir, It seems the Commander Fox feinted and when she came to, she didn't recognize her husband Dr. Syvar or anyone else in the crew with the exception of the Captain whom she believes is her father. She is under the belief that she is eight years old and living on Earth, we haven't begun any test as of yet. At this time, we are uncertain if this regression of hers have been caused by trauma, shocking news or a virus. As you are the most senior medical officer here, I would be glad for any input that you may offer Dr. Harrison. "

Harper moved next to Jon and watched as Syvar helped Amelia back into the bio bed. "I'll make sure she is kept safe." she spoke softly before looking at Amelia personally. Given that she was in the mindset of an 8-year-old at the moment it seemed wise to speak to her in that vein. "Don't worry sweetie. Everyone here will make sure you are safe. You don't need to be frightened." she smiled brightly at her.

Amelia still had her eyes fixed on Jon. "Dad! You'll stay here with me? Don't leave me alone, please..."

Jon could not believe he was saying this. "Sweetheart," he locked eyes with Kovan. "I will stay with you for a bit but the doctor needs you to stay overnight. So we will get you settled and comfortable and then I'll have to go for a while but I will be back and the doctor will keep me updated on everything. Don't worry these people are all friends. No one is going to hurt you. And your big brave girl," he finished. Still not believing he was saying this to his XO.

Amelia nodded.

Kovan walked over to the replicator and replicated a cute lady teddy bear with a pretty yellow dress and matching ribbon on her head and came back over and handed it to Amelia. "" She has been here by herself and doesn't have a name, perhaps you could help her so she doesn't feel scared? " Kovan asked her.

Amelia was still holding onto Jon's hand but accepted the teddy with her free hand and smiled. "Thank you, she's beautiful."

Roger watched as Kovan replicated a teddy bear. Fantastic idea! Play therapy was always a good suggestion. He spoke quietly to Dr Syvar. "I've seen this before, once. I was in the Betazoid trauma hospital. We had a regression case when a Beta got a head injury. He was ok after a few days. I trust she will be, too. I have a few ideas-anything you know she likes? Toy wise, maybe she plays with your girls with certain things? My little one, Minnie, likes dolls and animal puppets. We could try play therapy, perhaps." It was a long shot, but he'd try anything. And do anything to avoid going "home."

Syvar shook his head. "Last time this happened, she was infected with something except at that time she still remembered me, and actually literally called for me. The difference now is that she doesn't seem to know me, or the girls. Who are only a few months old...not much playing to be done at this age I'm afraid. They still sleep a lot."

Kovan smiled at Amelia. " You are very welcome. So what is her name? She can't be a brave bear without a name and you to protect her. " He said gently. " There's nothing to worry about now, your father is here because he was worried because you fainted. We need to run some tests, Ok? I promise you it won't hurt a bit. So, could you lie down on the bed, please? " He asked.

Amelia looked at the bear for a moment and frowned before answering "Her name is..... Melody. Yes, she's my best friend and she always looks after me." She hugged the bear tightly as she lay down on the biobed.

Jon took Kovan to one side. "Doc keep me abreast of all these tests you're going to run and keep her in until we have a solid idea whats going on," he ordered.

"Dr Syvar," Jon beckoned him over. "Stay with her. Shes going to stay in. And try not to worry."

"Yes sir," the young Vulcan answered, though he couldn't keep the worried look from his face.
