Lilura had sensed him moving up beside her as she enjoyed watching the incoming participants for tonight's gala. She turned to look at him, happy that the 6'2" very strong auric signature Terran was only 4 inches shorter than her. She responded, "Hey Graham, doing better, now that you're here." She turned to look at him with sparkling Green eyes and continued, "Your nerve structure is slightly different than a Terran, as well as you have a very strong aura. I like it."

And now the continuation ............

ON:

"Yeah, I work out," Mitchell said with a mischievous grin. "You're looking good yourself. Nice outfit."

The bartender appeared, ready to take his order. "I'll have whatever she's having," Mitchell said, nodding to Lilura's drink. A bourbon was in his hand only seconds later. "Any interesting drinks from your homeworld?" He asked her.

Lilura giggle-gurgled from her chest. "Well, not many I could bring with me as they would be considered poisonous to most humanoids However, I do have a couple of precious bottles of 142 proof Spiced Soliquoy Brandy that is considered safe, considering its alcohol content. I like flavorful drinks, hence the Reiser 118 proof Vanilla Spiced Bourbon you're enjoying." She blushed slightly and said, "The Soliquoy brandy can't be replicated, well, not fully, so its precious. I'm saving it for very special occasions... but, if you think this party is such a time, I can go fetch it?"

"Tempting," Mitchell said with a laugh, "but I wouldn't ask you to go fetch something that dear to you just for me. I don't think this party is that important. Another time perhaps? When an appropriately special occasion comes up you can give me a call? I'm afraid I don't know what qualifies as a special occasion on your world."

Lilura gurgled laughed, then said, "Yeah, this definitely doesn't qualify in my mind, but may have in yours." She grinned to Mitchell, then said, "For me, a life changing event, such as, say, a top graduation, a marriage, first child, Mission successful despite all odds, adult transition, you know, a memorable event that defines a part of who you are. Does this make sense?"

"Perfect sense. When that day comes I'll join you in cracking open that bottle. I'm the meantime we'll content ourselves with these. Deal?" He raised his glass to her.

Lilura grinned widely, loving the initial personality meeting of Mitchell. Of course, she would have to wait to be with him more often to verify what he was showing here was him, but that was part of being in among other star cultures. She held up her glass with a happy rumble coming from her chest, "Deal! To your health." She took a swig, enjoying the flavor, and the company.

Amongst the gaggle of staff that had been on their way in when Mitchell arrived had been Naiya Hope, the doctor still slightly uncomfortable about her very public reaction to the launch earlier that day on the Bridge. She was hoping against all hope that no-one would have remembered it and was now, hoping to make a much better impression on her fellow crew. She had dressed carefully, making sure her dress was modest but stylish and offering no cause to draw attention. She slipped quietly into the party and up to the bar where she took a soft drink of Clerian peach juice and made herself disappear into the room, smiling and greeting people softly and briefly so as not to stand out in any way.

Amelia leaned forward to Jonathan and said, "May I? Shall we?"

The part Betazoid nodded knowing what was coming.

The Brunette stood up and banged her goblet against the table. "May I have everyone's attention please?"

Aidan turned slightly, reaching for Emme's hand as he tilted his head to listen.

Naiya stood quietly listening. She was so interested to hear what the CO would say she totally forgot about her previous concerns and just focussed on him.

She realized she really liked his voice and could listen to him for as long as he wanted to talk. It helped her to lose her nervousness and revert to her normal self again yet she wasn't aware that was what she had subconsciously done. She stood smiling much more naturally now, the tension easing in her shoulders as she listened. Later she might look back at her reactions at this early stage and realize what had been happening but for now she was blissfully unaware of herself which was a blessing in itself so she took it unquestioningly as a bonus.

Lilura heard Amelia's voice and whispered to Mitchell, "It's the XO, we really should listen."Lilura

"Right," Mitchell whispered back. He set his glass on the bar and turned his full attention.

“The Captain wishes to say a few words,” Amelia informed the room.

Jon took a breath. “It’s customary to say a few words on a maiden voyage. It brings back memories of Captain Smith saying memorable words on his maiden voyage. Let's hope we fare better than him.

Here we are setting out into the unknown, in the finest tradition of Starfleet, to seek out new life and explore strange new worlds. I am sure we will encounter many interesting things that will keep all of you well occupied. Hopefully we shall come across some strange new civilizations and we forge new alliances, relationships and friendships.

Starfleet has provided us with one of the finest ships in the Federation not mention one of the most beautiful. The name personifies it. Treat Andromeda like the lady that she is, and she will always bring us home.”

He raised his glass, “To our new ship, family and the adventure. Make it so!”

Raising his glass of iced water, Aidan smiled. "To the future," he said.

Lilura raised her glass and whispered, "Sianktckstien Saluzhchentks." She then tipped her glass and swallowed the half of her size glass down. She slid it towards the bartender with a low, "Fill it again, please."

Amelia lent in close and whispered "Very good Sir, brought a tear to my eye."

"Oh be quiet Fox. Go find the bloke your wearing that dress for," Jon grinned.

Amelia chuckled before standing "If you'll excuse me" She then headed across the room to Lieutenants Graham and Kararkalakss. "Hello there Mitchell, Lilura. Enjoying the party?"

Lilura nodded and replied, "Definitely." She waited to see what Mitchell had to say.

"Sure, although I have to confess I haven't mingled with anyone but Lilura here," Graham replied with a grin. "That's a knockout dress you're wearing. Trying to see how many heads you can turn?"

Amelia tried to act casual. "What this old thing? I just threw it on. Nothing special really. It's not as if I'm trying to impress anyone" she added with a sly glance his way.

Graham laughed. "You're not fooling anyone. Sit down." He gestured to an empty spot.

Lilura scooted a little down the bar so as to pick up her glass with her tail, as well as give Amelia and Mitchell some room if they wanted to get more flirty with each other without having to think they owed an apology to Lilura for some reason. Pairings happened, and if the wingman was proactive, such shifts in speaking shouldn't have to occur. Of course, if it progressed, Lilura would have to find a different dance partner, but, then again, she didn't even know if Mitchell could dance. It hadn't progressed that far yet.

Jon watched as they brought the cake out and some nibbles he had asked. He spotted his chief engineer at the bar and his XO and Helmsman. Ahhh so it was Graham she was trying to impress. Lilura looked like she had been sidelined suddenly. He hoped that wasn't going to be a problem. Difficult relationships he was familiar with. Every ship he had been on seemed to be fraught with them. But interspecies ones and trying to navigate alien cultures especially ones they were not that familiar with could make things so much harder.

He started carving up the cake seeing no reason to make any more pomp and ceremony out of things. "Dad can I …."

"Here," he handed Eddie a slab of it. "And go take this to the chief engineer. She looks like she needs some company."

"The dragon lady," Eddies eyes lit up. "Sure thing dad."

So the engineers species was still the coolest on the ship then Jon noted as he cut some more slices and started passing them out.

"Your son seems energetic." True said, coming up to take a slice. It was then it dawned on her that there was cake and Carlie wasn't anywhere near it. What was wrong with the girl? Could it be possible she liked ice cream but not cake? Nah, the thought was ridiculous.

"You don't know the half of it counselor. I really need to find him an outlet to focus all this energy. I wonder if he's old enough to start showing how to box. My grandfather showed my father, my father me. It would be nice to carry on the tradition. Not sure Charlotte would be too happy though," Jon said.

"Hmm," True said thoughtfully, not really liking the idea either. What about fencing? Or some other form of combat that wasn't quite so physical contact?

"Fencing … hmmm I know nothing about that. Would you be willing to help me learn some counselor?" Jon challenged. He wasn't teaching his son something he himself couldn't do.

"I think between the two of us we can figure it out." True nodded. I'll find a holodeck instructor, if we don't kill each other we can let Eddie try it."

"Sounds a plan," Jon nodded.

"Hey Lilura," Eddie walked towards the tall engineer. "Do you like cake?"

Lilura grinned as she looked down at Jonathan's Kitling coming towards her. "Hey Eddie, yeah, I enjoy cake, very much." She crouched down to be of a more similar height as Eddie. "So, I see you have two.. are you doing to scarf both down? Or, umm, could you take pity on me and share one?"

"Oh this one is for you," he handed it too her and stuffed a mouthful into his mouth. "I think I might be going back for more though. This is good."

Amelia spotted the Captain making the rounds with the cake and her face lit up. "I'll be right back." she whispered in Mitchell's ear as she stood and made a beeline for Reynolds. She grabbed to slices with a quick "Thanks" and came straight back, placing on of the plates in front of Mitchell.
